Very Biggles like 'all can do' war hero of both World Wars. Sir Keith Park a New Zealander joined The Anzac Brigade becoming a WW1 'flying ace' in Gallipoli. Transferring afterwards to the RAF to survive The Somme. During WW2 He was the operation commander to the RAF for the Battles of Britain and Malta. He has a mahoosive amount of medals and awards to his name and at least 2 streets named after him in the UK. 1 in Biggon Hill and another in Hillingdon. He has been air commander of a variety of RAF bases including Northolt. There was another temporary statue of him on the 4th plinth of Trafalgar Square in 2009 for 6 months but this has possibly been moved to an RAF base. On the 70th anniversary of The Battle of Britain in 2010 this 9ft bronze statue of him was unveiled by sculpture Les Johnson. He stands on an equally tall rectangular stone plinth in full WW1 flying garb putting on his flying gloves and looking in the direction of the enemy forces. In close proximity to The Duke of York's column and steps, Pall Mall, The Mall, Giro the dog's grave, St James's Park, The Royal Society, The Institute of Contemporary Arts, Buckingham Palace, Horse Guards Parade, Trafalgar Square, and a plethora of other tourist attractions. Nearest stations are Piccadilly Circus, Charing Cross or St James's Park.

This statue stands in tribute to Air Chief Marshal Sir Keith Rodney Park, a New Zealand soldier who served in First World War achieving the distinction of being a flying ace and Second World War Royal Air Force commander. He commanded the air defences of London and the South Eat of United Kingdom during the Battle of Britain, eventually leading the Royal Air Force to victory. The bronze statue shows Sir Keith Park, wearing a flying suit and putting on his gloves. It's a simple statue, but well place in Waterloo Place amongst other great heroes of the the former British Empire

The most recent addition here, aside The Athenaeum Club, unveiled on the 70th. Anniversary of the Battle of Britain in 2010. Long overdue. Park was tasked with the day to day defence and control of the ‘wartime skies’ over London and acknowledged as an inspirational leader, brilliant tactician and strategist. Indomitable. Here, portrayed in combat gear, calm and nonchalant looking skyward while fitting a glove.... “.. if the (glove) fits, wear it.” It certainly did.

My great, great-uncle who I was obviously named after, this statue brings much pride to the Park family and stands in such a prime location in the heart of London.
