It's taken me a couple of years to recover and reflect on my experience with Shiela Giantzides to provide a fair and balanced review of which isn't emotionally driven - I went here with my mum after struggling with our relationship for several years. Digging up our payments we had a total of 16 sessions. Expectedly a lot of trauma came with our sessions when talking about how we both felt and trying to understand each others point of view. Unfortunately this is all that happened. Sheila did not bring anything to the table other than "how do you feel about that?". My mum and I would have an hour long conversation with frequent and difficult silences when we could not connect or communicate. I often hoped that in these moments Sheila had been listening & examining intently, and would step in with that redirection or building block that set us on a positive path. But it just never happened. We emotionally damaged each other more and more with each session covering old ground, and at the hours close the ticking clock on the table beside Sheila would signify that it was time to pay no matter where the conversation was up to. Through those 16 sessions we threw away £640 to this person who we felt really did not do anything constructive or useful for us. Every week we turned up we felt like strangers to her. The oversized room was often cold and uncomfortable. When sat awkwardly for an hour you'd at least hope you were physically comfortable, but I had to shift my weight between each butt cheek every 5 minutes or so due to the budget staffroom-like chairs. After a determined, patient and expensive experience we had to accept that Sheila was either incapable or unwilling to help us make progress. It took me and mum some considerable time after this to be able to talk again. Slowly we've developed a stable enough 'arms length' relationship we can both accept as good enough. This came from our determination to not give up on each other. I've found so much more value from podcasts on Spotify, but I understand that Counselling can really help relationships if provided by somebody who cares about you. If you feel Counselling could help please give it a chance, but I would never recommend giving that chance to Sheila Giantzides.
