I spent yesterday here having an operation after a visit last Thursday to review my fingers and hand after i damaged the nerve by puncturing it with some glass from a door I fell against. It was my own fault ! Not theirs, it’s me that’s grumpy, in pain and annoyed by my own actions. Every single person I was in contact with in my recent visit were fantastic, they all had their own independent functions to do, but worked well within the teams too, these are people too like us all and have their own daily life dramas, it’s not obligatory that they should make us feel better or try to by chatting around subjects or talking about other things other than the problem. They looked professionally at the problem put their best efforts into making us or it better - in my case try to repair the damage, however it’s not always simple as it seems neither was mine, I came away deflated because it’s unlikely I will have normality feeling or use of my hand fully again. But they spent hours trying to, - it s not their fault they couldn’t fix me the body is complex, I listened to their conversation during the operation and it was enlightening, weighing up risk v reward. With both senior and junior surgeons trying to find the best route forward and for best outcome. We should do all we can to keep away from hospitals - but the team that looked after me were fantastic and the surgeons and ladies in this instance that blocked my pain ( can’t spell anestheiests) we’re down to earth lovely people. So to the people that have nothing better to do than complain, accept help graciously or don’t bother at all and see how you fair. My journeys going to be long and I hope that they will assist me along the way to help me cope with the pain, and as it stands today a bit of feeling sorry for myself.. apologies to all those that dealt with me, I do remember some first names, but not to single anyone out . Thank you - see you soon (unfortunately 😜)

Was told I'd be pushed up the theatre list as it was only a small surgery which wasn't the case sat waiting in my boxing and gown for a hour waiting. All while listening to this Asian cleaner who doesn't seem to do much cleaning other than talk tripe to anyone who will listen. But I think the waiting list was flipped upside down as I'm the last here so....

So I was using a Circular saw blade in my Dremel n it court my thumb n ragged it round it with a depth of 10mm in some places, I felt it hit bone. I went to minor injuries when it happened who wouldn’t close the wound till I saw the hand clinic 4 days later. On waiting in the waiting room I met 3 other big blokes who had done similar things to there hands but felt they were been messed about by them. Too the point one guy said when his names called he’s going to ask them to just cut it off so he don’t have to come back for another woman to say her partner has just gone in n is saying the same. My dad came here a few years ago after a martial arts accident where his finger is still deformed from the poor treatment here. So as my name was called I was met by a Academic nerd type doctor that looked me up n down like he had a bad smell under his nose, his name was Stopfy. He asked me what happened n said it’s too far healed to stitch so we can offer you a tetanus shot but that’s about it, I said I don’t think it’s necessary because the blade was clean n brand new for him to say il be the judge of that. So now I have a massive open wound about 4mm wide trying to heal round the under side of my nail as the thumb been de gloved. Amazing how in too different hospitals not one nurse or doctor knows how to stitch a wound, or doesn’t have the stomach for it. Maybe you shouldn’t be a dust bin man if u don’t like the smell of rubbish. God this country’s going down the toilet.

10/10 from start to finish. Arranged an appointment, offered one the day after. Arrived on time , consultation with the lady doctor on time , fully assessed, explanation given, X-ray done on the day, explained in clinic before I left. Seamless from start to finish. A refreshing change. Nhs at its best. Brilliant.

Just had a MCP joint replacement carried out by Mr Storey and Miss Blackburn. Despite the Covid situation being what it is the care and attention to detail has been brilliant. All the staff in the hand centre have been brilliant, friendly, efficient and helpful throughout my hand surgery. The department is clean and welcoming and seems to be well run. The operating theatre team should get a mention too. All the team worked really hard to make me feel comfortable and confident during the procedure. Thank you so much for all your expertise and care
