While it is a bit out of the way from most Edinburgh locations, Sheep's Heid Inn is a worthy addition to any itinerary for a delicious meal served in a picturesque setting. Wonderfully charming and atmospheric, Scotland's oldest public house serves up excellent brews and pub food, showcasing why they're a landmark for so long. They win my award for best meat pie in Edinburgh, and the staff was knowledgeable with proper whiskey recommendations and guidance. The sticky toffee was also top-notch, and creamy mushrooms served as a perfect starter, rich with umami. To top off the food and booze, a quick jaunt up next door Arthur's Seat was a great way to finish the evening. Of course, the reverse could easily be true- a wonderful meal at the end of a good hike!

Went to the sheep heid to grab a pint after enjoying my sunny morning around the park. It was noon, I think the pub had just opened and it was full of people everywhere. They have a beautiful outside area that was also packed. When I went to the bar to get myself that refreshing pint I was craving, there was what looked like an argument between two members of staff. I don't know what happened. Honestly, I don't think the barmaid knew it either. The very angry man was shouting at her in front of all of us and it was very awkward. The barmaid managed to pull it together with a smile and served me. I wanted to comfort her, but she looked alright, so I hope my review helps her, no one should be treated that way, but especially with espectators. I found the situation extremely awkward and I know I am not the only person that felt this way, as the rest of us waiting for drinks, glared at eachother, in shock with the situation between two staff members. I only stayed for that pint, never saw the barmaid again. Food looked good, couldn't order any meal as I didn't have a booking (have that in mind) great for outside drinks in my personal opinion.

The gist: (1) rude waitress (2) disappointing food (3) online menu is not accurate The summary: We did not have a good experience — when I made the booking for 16:45 I was not aware that the dinner menu didn't start until 17:00 and that we would NOT be allowed to order off the dinner menu at all (as our booking was before 17:00). This was obviously very frustrating and the waitress clearly could not care less. Also, the sandwiches were not great and definitely not worth the price. Lastly, their online menu is not correct so don't base and decisions to go off of the menu (I would post a real picture of their dinner menu, but they wouldn't give me one!). So, no.... I would not recommend this place.
