Our instructors are all certified by the Royal Yachting Association and have extensive experience in sailing. They also undergo regular training and updates to ensure they are up-to-date with the latest techniques and safety protocols.

What is the student-to-instructor ratio in your classes?

We maintain a low student-to-instructor ratio to ensure personalized attention and a safe learning environment. Our ratio is typically 4:1 for beginner classes and 6:1 for more advanced classes.

What type of boats do you use for instruction?

We use a variety of boats for instruction, depending on the level and type of class. Our fleet includes keelboats, dinghies, and catamarans.

What safety protocols do you have in place?

Safety is our top priority, and we have a number of protocols in place to ensure a safe learning environment. All students are required to wear life jackets, and our instructors are trained in first aid and rescue techniques. We also monitor weather conditions closely and will cancel classes if conditions are deemed unsafe.

What is your cancellation policy for classes and what happens in case of bad weather?

We understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise, and we have a flexible cancellation policy. If a student needs to cancel a class, they can do so up to 48 hours before the class start time for a full refund. If we need to cancel a class due to bad weather, we will reschedule the class for a later date or provide a full refund.

First class Sailing School and can't wait to get back! If your thinking of going sailing or working your way through the RYA qualifications then I cannot recommend Shearwater more highly Our group had no previous sailing experience so we decided to take part in the competent crew course. In that 5 days we covered a huge variety of subjects from navigating, knot tying, rules of the road, working the sails, steering and terminology. Mark was our instructor and clearly has an extensive knowledge of sailing and lots of experience which is clear in the way he teaches. His cups of tea aren't bad either! The location is an ideal setting to learn to sail. We had the opportunity to get out onto the River Orwell, Stour and even out to sea. Woolverstone Marina was easy to find and the facilities were always clean. Shanti is a beautiful Hallberg Rassy and quickly becomes home. Just make sure you bring plenty of biscuits to fill the cupboards!

I've sailed with Shearwater Sailing School off and on for nearly 2 years, working my way through the RYA courses. I've had the pleasure of sailing with almost all of the instructors there, and have had a fantastic time every time I've gone out and learned loads! Cannot recommend this school enough. Great place to sail from, great people to sail with.
