I was interviewed here a few years ago for a teaching post. I didn't get the job - that's not a problem. IMHO I was only short listed to make up the numbers with another teacher who had worked at the school - it was clear from the conversations that I really didn't have a fair chance. The unpalatable issue that I left with, and the one that lingers long is the incredibly condescending attitude exhibited by one member of senior staff who went out of his way to try to belittle my talent, experience and qualifications - he was pompous and rather full of himself and his school. I work locally as a private tutor (I have taught A-level maths, physics and chemistry since the start of 2009) and have taught a couple of students from the school - it's a clearly a decent school with some bright students but in all honesty, it doesn't stand out from many other local schools - and I've taught and continue to teach many students from all over the local region. One thing I remember from the interview was that their statement about the "working at" level for their students was rather inflated - this impacted on the lesson as the students were nowhere near the level stated. From the job adverts they've placed over the last couple of years - they seem to struggle to hang on to English, maths, geography and science teachers.
