A German Catholic Church has been located in the area since shortly after the restoration of the Catholic hierarchy after the Catholic Relief Act 1829. I was drawn to visit St Boniface to view the five Hans Feibusch murals at the church. My visit was enabled by Fr Andreas Blum the parish priest who is a very warm and welcoming man. St Boniface named after the English Benedictine monk who evangelised parts of Germany and is noted for chopping down a sacred tree with an axe thus he is shown with a axe. The church like much of the east was destroyed by the Luftwaffe during the Blitz. Rebuilt and consecrated in the 1950s St Boniface is an attractive modern church. It has in addition to the HFs murels, beautiful stations of the Cross from Oberammergau. A beautiful statue of Our Lady. In a niche a beautiful if distressed C14th statue of St Barbara. A restoration cause worthy of support. The iron work around the sanctuary are beautiful on the right as viewed from the congregation scenes from the life of Christ. The ambo or lecture, the shower of the seeds. A beautiful church.
