FAQ

What is the history and significance of the exhibits or artifacts in the museum?

Our museum, the Roman Painted House, showcases a well-preserved Roman house that was discovered in 1970 during construction work. It is significant because it provides a glimpse into the daily lives of the Romans who lived in Dover around 2000 years ago. The walls of the house are adorned with beautiful and intricate wall paintings that have survived the test of time.

What are your opening hours and admission fees?

Our museum is open daily, from 10 am to 5 pm. The last admission is at 4 pm. Our admission fees are £6 for adults, £5 for seniors and students, and £3 for children aged 5 to 16. Children under 5 can enter for free. We also offer group rates for parties of 10 or more.

Photography and filming are not allowed inside the museum, as the flash can be harmful to the exhibits and artifacts. However, we do allow visitors to take pictures in the courtyard and garden area outside of the museum.

Domus Romana Picta - The Roman Painted House in Dover had a sign that said it was open as did Google Map. However, it was CLOSED. We were very excited to see Roman Villa in Dover after seeing both Roman Lighthouses. But, since it was closed (even though it said it was open), we had to go to Canterbury to see one. If you decide to visit, ring them first because even the website said they were open when they weren’t.
