Sorry to say but Markay really did a poor job resetting the neck on my bass. The angle of the reset wasn't right, the neck came away at the first attempt so I had to return it to be sorted. He kept telling me it would be ready in a few days and then said it wasn't ready to collect when I called him to pick it up. All in all I waited about 6 weeks to get the guitar back and it was a poor repair in the end, an amateurish repair chipping the paint on the finish and charging me £80 for the privilege. Really I should have refused to take it back in that condition and pressed him for compensation, but by that time all I wanted was to get it back from him. I have attached some photos to illustrate how poor a job he did. The action is now really high at the 12th fret on and this can't be sorted by lowering the saddle or adjusting the truss rod because the neck reset wasn't done properly. Also for some reason he filed down the nut on the guitar? If you look carefully at his reply to this honest assessment of his work you might learn something about his attention to detail. It is true that throughout the 6 weeks he had my guitar he complained that the guitar wasn't made properly in the first place but this seems to be how he deals with customers who are less than happy with his work. Also if, as he says, it wasn't fit for purpose why did he take my money and do such an awful job? Surely he would have said the job can't be done properly and refused the work. Look at the photos and decide for yourself. I suspect he may be ok for a basic set up but I would not trust him with anything more

A 5 star, extremely professional service - I'd give 6 stars if I could! Been playing guitar for ~20 years and recently bought a Fender American Pro II telecaster. I wasn't totally happy with the set up that it came with so after seeing all of Markay's 5 star reviews I dropped him an email. After a very quick and helpful response I booked to take the guitar in. Markay went to great lengths to assess the instrument, learn about my playing style and what I wanted from the guitar. After that initial conversation I had no doubt that Markay would do an excellent job - his extensive knowledge about all things guitar was clear! The work was completed very quickly, communication was excellent throughout and the result is simply brilliant. After Markay's work it plays like a dream, amazing action and intonation and the guitar feels like a different instrument from when I bought it - I haven't been able to put it down! Not only that, but when I went to collect it, he sat with me, ran me through what he'd done and took the time to check that everything was perfect and how I wanted it to be (everything was spot on!). I've already spoken to Markay about brining my other guitars in for the same treatment and will be very happy to be a repeat customer. I've had work done elsewhere in the past but all my guitars will be going to Markay from now on - an absolutely fantastic service from start to finish!

Markay is the professional's professional. An exceptional service from start to finish. In my case it was a Marshall Lead12 Amp from the early 80s (5005 for the geeks). Pots entirely unusable by the time I sought a service after 30 years, but I knew the tone was only worth entrusting it to someone who knew what they were doing. Kay was very clear that he doesn't usually do amps but thank F*** he did. The man is a genius and knows more than you do about your situation, so trust his sage advice. I have 2 or 3 guitars coming his way I think. The possibilities are endless! If only everyone were as competent as Markay Boyle.

Wow! I thought my Revstar RSS02T played okay out the box until I took it to Kay. He did a full professional set up for me and now it plays ridiculously better than when I first got it. I can’t believe the difference, so much more well balanced in the pick ups and feels great up and down the neck! This was my first guitar set up and Kay even took the time to teach me some things on what to spot for set ups. Absolute legend and the only person I will take guitars to from now on. 10/10!

His attention to detail is superb, perhaps even obsessive, which is exactly what you want when you're leaving your axe in someone's hands.
