I dealt with abby , she was fantastic. All aspects of the funeral were gone thru together with me for my dad. The funeral director at the crematorium was ever so repectful and friendly , he went above and beyond imho. Although the funeral went just as planned and all went well. I would avoid using this service. They will not tell you (until the day of the funeral) that any outstanding costs will be passed to a debt collector, which will in turn effect your credit rating. They don’t do payment plans and don’t really seem to care about the effects this would have on people… people who have just lost a loved one. Not a nice way of doing things, especially given the service they are providing, you would think they’d be more compassionate. Received nearly £3500, and now want to pass £200 to a debt collector!

A big thank you to Sam, Abby and Rebecca for all their help and support in arranging my dad's funeral, which on the day was perfect. They also took good care of his ashes whilst the family arranged for their transport abroad, providing all the necessary documentation when we were ready to take him. The team at Robert Ayling are kind and compassionate people who provide an excellent service, during what is a difficult time.

The experience was mostly positive in that everything was handled efficiently at a reasonable price. However at one point on the phone I found myself in shouting match with them over matters I had already agreed and also implications that I had not given them relevant information. What I don't like is to be given bad news in a way that implies I already know about it. It is obviously a house style because when I raised a complaint with head office I received several communications saying things like "I can confirm that we do not record outgoing phone calls from our funeral homes" when of course they were not confirming as it was new information. The whole thing seems designed to cover up their own communication failures. It's fair to say there is a difference in recollection of the details of the contentious phone call, particularly who it was I was talking to. As a result I named a member of staff and they say it was someone else I was talking to. What disturbs me is that the person I named was given the task of ringing me to agree an outcome. That is not the right way to handle a complaint. Definitely not recommended.
