Bought my dog 5 years ago from these kennels, unfortunately we had to have him put to sleep just after his 5th Birthday .We were told by the vet to inform the breeder as he had lymphoma and it could be genetic . So we texted Jan our sad news, explaining what had happened to our beautiful boy and asking if had had any feedback on his brothers and sisters .After sending a second message the reply was ' so sorry for the sad news ' that's it !,no feedback whatsoever , just thought would of had a little more interest in one of her pups :(

I left my dog at the richmond kennels in southport. The dog stayed for a week, when I picked him up he was left in this state.. for those who cannot spot it the yellow patches are dry wee. When I called to complain, the owner said that it could not be possible he looked like that and if it was the case it was cause they left the dog inside the kennel cause it was hot so they rather leave the dog in a puddle of wee than let him out, specially if they have lots of grass.. the owner also said there is nothing I can do and if we didn't like to never return. I honestly believe she couldn't care about it... also another staff said that they were expecting us tomorrow instead of today, well maybe they were trying to covering up.

We had our dog stay for two nights here at the kennels, and firstly they were very accommodating. Our dog hasn't had great experiences in previous kennels and is very nervous with large amounts of barking. I explained this to the owner, and having been kindly shown the inside of the kennels, I could see that the enclosed space, with metal pens next to one another, and the number of dogs barking would cause him stress. This isn't to say the accommodation was poor, it just felt a little crowded and I know that this time of year was very busy for the kennels so it felt more chaotic. The owner very kindly then put him in their own personal dogs kennel area which was much more quite and spacious. On picking him up, he was happy to say hello again to the staff and didn't smell which I always take as a good sign. The reason I couldn't give this kennels 5 stars is because the main kennel area was very enclosed and the concrete floors sprinkled sawdust, although practical, I would have liked to have seen a bit more comfort, even old scraps of carpet which they used in their own personal kennels would have added a little extra comfort for those dogs that are not as comfortable with kennels. Or, they could have made a comment on calling them or on their website to bring a bed for your dog, which luckily we had in the car just in case. In addition, the website suggests that food is available there for them, but then we were asked if we had brought food for him; just by chance we had his food because we had been on holiday previous, but we didn't expect to provide food either. However, the staff were lovely and accommodating and other dogs which were going into and out of the kennels seemed happy. We also did see a member of staff leave the main kennels with scrap carpet as we left so they may have even added some carpet since, to the concrete floors. To remember, at the price of £14 a day, it is an affordable price and I wouldn't expect luxury, but I'd like to see basic comforts beyond sawdust.

When I made my phone enquiry the lady was very friendly and accommodating. I arranged to pop in to have a look before dropping of my fur baby. I'm so glad I did because I would never leave my cat there. The accommodation is in a large, dark, cold and unpleasant smelling shed. They had a choice of carpet or sawdust for the floor but the cages are small and I was so pleased I had checked first. This review is not a comment on the staff or manager. As I said, the lady sounded very pleasant.
