A wonderful traditional jeweller which I have visited in Harrogate and York also. Very fine collection of vintage and modern beautifully crafted pieces. I had a signet ring made which is a ring with a family coat of arms. Beautiful work and very nice people.

I've been to Richard Ogden's three times. The first was to buy my fiancee's engagement ring. We went together to choose our wedding rings, and were treated to champagne in honour of the occasion. The last time was to buy a gold band with diamonds as an anniversary ring for my wife. The staff were always helpful and kind, and gave good advice.

A very unpleasant experience. I booked a visit in advance and the lady I spoke to on the phone was very polite. I told her the time I planned on dropping in, budget and ring style I was after. I arrived with my fiancé exactly when I said I would only to be made to feel like we were not welcome and that we were not good enough for the shop. I can only assume this is because we are young. The four ladies in the shop claimed to have no recollection of a phone call and had no notes that we were arriving. They then proceeded to shove some rather ghastly rings in front of us with no explanation or help as to what the differences were and what the qualities of the diamonds were. After five minutes it became clear that none of the people working there had any interest in helping us or selling a ring even though we were the only customers there, so we left. My fiancé was left feeling very upset on what was supposed to be a special day choosing an engagement ring. Luckily we went across the Burlington Arcade to the next jewellers, Hancocks and were immediately made to feel welcome and had a very pleasant experience there. Since then, I have spoken to two other people who have had very similar experiences at Ogden's which is such a shame as we were all recommended RO by our parents who had been there before and bought rings in the past. If it wasn't for this I would not have written a review but feel that if others have felt the same way something needed saying. Clearly things have changed, avoid if you want a good experience buying an engagement ring!
