We met with Steve on Saturday as our Cockapoo Meg had started to become snappy towards other dogs when they try to sniff her. Steve was excellent at explaining what the triggers were and how we should respond. Steve was extremely knowledgeable about dog behaviour and how they socialise. Steve put us at ease and left us feeling much more confident going forward. Meg is much more relaxed now and we can enjoy our walks again. Thanks Steve you are a star !

Steve visited my dog Monty and I for the day in February. Monty is a 3 year old JRT x Chihuahua, he’s always been very anxious around new people and acts aggressive towards them. It’s something I’ve struggled to train out of him by myself using many different methods. During the day Monty responded very positively to Steve’s training techniques, which was really encouraging to see. He is clearly very knowledgable and taught me a lot. Especially in understanding the way dogs think. Steve has given me the confidence to know the training techniques will work if I keep persevering with them. Monty’s behaviour has already improved a lot since Steve’s visit. I’ve been able to introduce him to more of my friends and also seen big changes in his general behaviour. I would highly recommend Steve.

Steve visited us and our two dogs Billy & Pixie to help sort out a couple of issues that have arisen. Steve is so very knowledgeable about dogs and their behaviour and took the time to explain what we needed to do to improve the situation. He was very patient with us and answered our questions clearly and in simple terms so that we understood and now have the tools to put into practice what he has suggested to us. Steve is very professional, approachable and doesn’t make you feel that any questions you ask him are silly questions. He gives you the guidance needed to take charge and knowing that he is at the end of the phone for advice is a great confidence builder Can’t recommend Steve enough, just wish we had contacted him sooner.

After an initial in depth chat on the phone Steve came and spent 3 hours with us. From the start Steve did a great job of explaining the theory behind his techniques and then we got into practical help. A couple of days since his visit and the dogs are generally much calmer, walk great on lead and have a better recall and understanding of the Leave command. Really cannot recommend Steve highly enough!

Steve is the guy I wish I’d found 6 months ago when we first got our Collie cross rescue ‘Lucy’, we’ve been struggling with her from day one as she is extremely excited whilst out. She barks, lunges & pulls heavily on a lead and has given us countless stressful days of not knowing what to do.. Today we met at Colchester and spent an hour or so with Steve, who is a wealth of knowledge, to help us understand Lucy’s needs and mostly to train ourselves in what we should be doing to help her. I saw some real positives in just a short time and now Steve has given us the direction we need I’m excited to begin Lucy’s new training regime.. If you’re struggling with your dog’s behaviour don’t hesitate Steve is highly recommend

I have a 2 y/o working line GSD and we have worked with a number of trainers previously. This has involved a combination of regular lessons and also residential training and they delivered very mixed results. Having moved back to a city recently, it was imperative that the boy sharpened his obedience and that we have a high level of control over him. Having realised that it is me who must be 'trained' and not the dog, I ran an exhaustive search process for the right behaviourist. In my view, the only way to underwrite whether a trainer trainer or dog behaviourist is truly qualified is if they have employed their skills in a professional context i.e. from a law enforcement or military background. I met a couple of very good candidates, but in the end decided to go with Steve. It was very clear from our first phone call that he was passionate, knowledgeable, and very analytical - all not a surprise after over 30 years as a handler in the police force. Steve came down for just one day so far last week and at the rate of progress, he won't be back for a while. The results have been instant and outstanding, primarily because of Steve's ability to 'train the trainer' i.e. myself, with ease. His training concepts are very simple, but most importantly, very well explained. Steve is an excellent communicator, both orally and written; everything just clicked whilst watching him in action in person and his custom behavioural report on my dog, which arrived just a matter of days after our session was crystal clear. He has also remained at our disposal for other questions, queries, and tips, which we greatly appreciated. After our full day session (all that seems to be required after what Steve has instilled in me and my Shepherd), I also booked Steve to pay a visit to my brother who has a not so obedient rescue and have also recommended him to other friends and colleagues. The bond between my dog and I is being (re)built from the ground up and I am sure we will see Steve again, with the aim of pursuing more advanced forms of training. I must caution that whilst Steve is brilliant, it is up to the dog owner to be consistent and committed with Steve's training methods. No one can 'train' your dog, you must do it yourself and commit to the cause. With a high level of commitment and dedication, you will see results.

We were having issues with our dog pulling a lot on the lead and being over excited. So we contacted Steve Hutley after looking at his experience he was our go to person and he didn’t disappoint us. Steve spent the entire day with us teaching us all the core concepts in dog training, he also suggested the right lead for our dog which has helped immensely and given us tips on how to use the right techniques when our boxer is highly excited. This has helped us a lot with our dog and even thou he still pulls at times and gets excited like a boxer pup that he is at his age, we are able to handle this with more confidence. We are glad we have Steve on this journey with us as we can now call him for any other assistance we need with our boxer dog for. It’s gives us peace of mind knowing that he is just a phone call away and we highly recommend his rehabilitation and training services.

Worked with Steve from the moment that we had chosen our puppy. His guidance was invaluable for the arrival of our Dalmatian at 8 weeks old and we now have got a great dog who is well trained and easy to deal with. Steve’s advice and help has really paid off and has been worth every penny.

We’ve known Steve for a number of years now after he helped us with training our older GSD. We now have a younger girl, Bella, who has struggled with being around other dogs and can be very reactive. We saw Steve had begun providing sessions and managed to get a training session yesterday. As is the way, Steve “trained” us to understand what Bella was trying to tell us & provided us with strategies to use that would help her make positive choices, ultimately making her feel more relaxed and comfortable out in the big world. We both feel a lot more confident and we’ve already practiced the strategies today when out this morning. Can highly recommend Steve’s training methods & we know he’s just a text away if we need a bit of additional help. Thanks….from us all.

Steve came round for a day with Otto, our nearly 2 year old Catalan Sheepdog. We've made slow progress with Otto so far, but Steve did a great job at helping us prioritise and commit to some really impactful strategies. We can't wait to get to work and see what progress we can make! Here's a photo of Otto sleeping soundly after his long day!
