we stayed in the Oakridge lodge. check in was easy and on entering we were surprised how large and spacious it was. The kitchen had ample equipment for our needs including a bottle of wine and biscuits and the lounge had two large sofas, a large smart TV, and a wood burner with a small supply of logs. the bedrooms were large with loads of towels. the hot tub was powerful and refreshing and had a good degree of privacy. the site was very quiet and peaceful. Nearby is Edwinstowe which has a large pub, butchers and bakery. For more regular shops the town of Retford should fill your needs, There were of course a few negative points. The pillows and duvet were cheap nasty and lumpy and the bedrooms only had blinds making it light very early and not conducive with good sleep. There are no instruction books on how to work anything eg: cooker heating etc. I don"t know who thought it was a good idea but the light in the toilet near the front door only worked occasionally. I eventually worked out that the power for the light was fed off the double downstairs bedroom toilet, so that had to be kept on all the time so we could have a light to do our business!!!!!! whats that about????????????? Overall we enjoyed our stay and would be prepared for its foibles next time.

Upon arrival, there was a strong sewage smell in the downstairs double ensuite. contacted the manager who informed me there was no one on site to assist, but I was welcome to go to the reception box and help myself to some drain cleaner. No apology, no follow-up. This didn't work, and the smell persisted. Luckily (?) there were only 2 couples in our party, so we ended up closing off the bedroom for the weekend, and my partner and I slept in the twin bedroom. We didn't see anyone attend to the hot tub all weekend, and the general cleanliness didn't feel great, so we only felt comfortable using it the once, which was a shame as a hot tub was one of our main attractions in the first place. The kitchen was well equipped for the most part, despite a broken bin, which we had to position a plant on to prevent the lid from opening. The blinds in the lodge are very old and stained. Some broken and could do with replacing. Perhaps most alarmingly was the onsite rubbish heap we could see from the window. Three enormous heaps of rubbish didn't do much for the relaxing forest surroundings promised. It was a shame. The site has potential, but is clearly not maintained.
