The history of Allotments goes back to Anglo-Saxon times. Though allotments as we know now came into being in 1908 when the small holdings and allotments act came into being. The importance of this act showed through the First and Second World Wars in that local people could produce some food for themselves during these dark years. Rayne Allotments is a fine example of what the 1908 act did for the common people. Rayne Allotments are well kept and are a credit to the holders. Unfortunately if you live in Rayne and would like an allotment the waiting list is long. Understandable though. 😄
