We are just back from a wonderful long weekend stay at Rascal Wood. We were a group of 4 families with parents and teenagers. Gordon and Jill were very responsive, friendly and helpful, with great advice on where to go and what to do. On the first night we used Just Eat to have an excellent curry delivered, no problems whatsoever. Second we made the short walk into the local village and had a hearty meal at The Olde Red Lion pub. They looked after us really well. Then on the third night we stayed in and all shared the cooking. The kitchen is very well equipped, with a modern dishwasher (bring tabs with you) 3 fridges and ovens with hobs. A big fancy toaster, microwave, 3 cafetieres and lots of utensils, pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, mugs and glasses. Huge dining room with plenty of space for up to 14 people. The kids enjoyed the games room, and the high speed internet. The adults made use of the generous selection of garden furniture to enjoy relaxing outside in the sunshine. Great water pressure, everyone appreciated the powerful showers in the various bathrooms available, better than we have at home! Big fluffy towels! We spent one day at Allethorpe Lakeland Park, just a 25 minute drive away. You need to book in advance. Loads of water-based activities for kids and grown ups. A large Cafe serving food and drinks meant we didn't need to use the picnic tables. Rascal Wood is in a very quiet location, set in beautiful rural scenery, but close enough to the local amenities and supermarket to be convenient for shopping trips and meals out.

Rascal Wood is a stunning 14 bed house in the peaceful Yorkshire countryside surrounded by fields. It is the perfect size for a family get-together or reunion. The house is clean, spacious and light. It has a large garden where we played games, and we could cater for ourselves easily in the well-equipped kitchen. The owners were very helpful in providing recommendations such as local walks and dining options. We thoroughly recommend and we look forward to staying here again soon!

The older reviews for this property from a couple of years ago do not truly reflect what it is like now! Overall our group had a great stay here but I definitely would not return. Nothing seemed to work properly. The water pressure was terrible even when only one person was showering. The house boasts 3 ovens, however only one worked properly and was so dirty inside. The fridges were warm and not fit for purpose. Lots of other properties in this area to choose from, avoid at all costs. Oh and when you leave you are expected to empty all bins, bathroom, bedroom etc yourself and mop the floors and leave the place as clean as you found it. The oven was probably cleaner when we left it than it was when we arrived!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY staying here. The place looks good on the outside but that’s where it ends. The house has not been cleaned in a long, long time. The floors left everyone’s feet black, the whole place was dusty and dirty. The showers don’t work as there is no water pressure. The ovens don’t work properly and barely heat up. The fridges on the other hand are warm and kept nothing cold. All the kitchen appliances were very old and tatty. The owner expects the guests to clean for the next guests so no wonder the place is in such a state of disrepair. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! *If only I could leave zero stars I would.
