On 30th May I will be moving in to my new flat! Something that simply wouldn’t have been achievable for me without the work Skye and I did together. I hope you will accept and also pass on my sincerest gratitude to Skye, yourself and everyone at Psicon whose efforts to create the perfect environment for recovery is so very evident. For a time, it seemed restarting my life was an impossibility. I do so love to discover an alternate ending! With warmest regards, I wish you all so much love and laughter.

My son was referred to Psicon by the NHS (paediatrician not GP) for an ASD assessment. The initial wait after referral was a while, around 4-6 months, however the correspondence once the referral was processed was regular and consistent. We received a letter agreeing to assess him and what to expect from the assessment process, both us and his preschool received two rounds of questionnaires (specifically worded questionnaires that may be hard to understand and answer if you are neurodivergent, I recommend a neurotypical friend rephrasing the question.) and a short while after submitting the second questionnaire we were invited for a face to face assessment. Our assessment was held in a public library so I can’t speak for facilities but the paediatrician and SLT that conducted our assessment were fantastic. The SLT took my son and watched him play (in a separate room due to facilities) and assessed his behaviour while we spoke to the paediatrician, towards the end of the appointment we rejoined and the paediatrician watched our sons interactions while the SLT spoke to us as well as a general discussion of any questions we had. We then waited approximately 20 minutes while they discussed their observations and we were then called back in. They very professionally and kindly informed us that our son does in fact have ASD, gave us some information about ASD and made sure we knew where to access help and support if needed before we left. We’ve been told the full report will arrive within 8 weeks (it’s only been a week) Overall a very good experience and took less than a year from the referral being sent to receiving a diagnosis.

Reception was overwhelmingly busy when I arrived but I was instantly checked in and taken to a quieter place to fill in paperwork. I was extremely anxious, which was recognised and I was spoken to quietly and calmly which helped. I felt I was listened to fully through the assessment and was given a diagnosis straight away without needing to wait.

I started off really rating this company but unfortunately the aftercare has been shocking. I contacted them for an autism assessment for myself. I did four screening tests with them and at each stage they progressed me to the next stage saying it was highly likely I was autistic. I went for the final assessment, only to be told at the end of it that I have traits of autism but do not meet the standard to have a formal diagnosis. On top of that it was suggested that I come back and get assessed for ADHD as I had some traits for that. I should mention that I was paying privately and was told that on top of the £1300 I was already paying for the autism assessment, there would be an additional cost for the ADHD assessment. I didn’t really understand what I was being told but thought I would wait for the report. I was told the report would be with me in two weeks. After 4 weeks and 2 days, I chased them and funnily enough the report was emailed to me that day. The report is shocking. It lists all the things I told the psychologist and doesn’t actually talk much about her evaluation. In addition to that, there are aspects of our conversation which are not in the report at all and very relevant to how I behave. It would appear the report states I am not autistic because I met all my milestones as a child, I am too social with friends and I’m impulsive which doesn’t match with autism. This is quite an outdated view in relation to the childhood thing as there is proven evidence that females mask their condition. The report states I showed signs during the interview but doesn’t say what and all in all the report is very basic, just lists our conversation, is full of spelling mistakes and not what you would expect for £1300. I have complained and not had a response therefore I have stopped any further money being paid to this company and I am now seeking a second opinion. I really do feel like they tell you that you have a condition until they get your money and then tell you actually you don’t but thanks for coming along. The report they have sent through is one of the most unprofessional reports I have ever read. If I am diagnosed with autism from a second opinion, I intend to recover the money from this company as I do lot feel they are not reputable. It’s such a shame as the staff were very friendly and made me feel as ease but I’m afraid they just want your money and don’t care about their clients.
