Barlborough Hospital and Staff can be summed up in one word - AMAZING! Full replacement of my left hip took four weeks and three days from consultation to operation. Surgeon and associated staff were brilliant along with all my nurses and ancillary staff. Food was also great as an added bonus. Thank you Barlborough.

I was referred by my GP to an different (NHS) hospital with severe arthritis where I saw a consultant in Sept 22 and was told I would be guaranteed to have maximum 6 - 8 months to wait for a hip replacement, as they manage the wait by sending patients to other facilities. The hip deteriorated further and in early Jan 23 I called to ask where I was on the list, to be told I had 12 months to wait as they were now doing all operations in house. I was offered a consultants appointment to review. That appointment was cancelled multiple times. Getting desperate as I was having extreme pain and difficulty standing up, I decided to look elsewhere and contacted Barlborough in the middle of February. I had a consultant's appointment and pre-op assessment within a week. There was no need for new X-rays as they had access to the NHS images. I decided to pay for the operation as the NHS system had failed and had the THR done by Mr Toft on 6th March 23, less than 4 weeks after first contacting the hospital. The care of all the staff was excellent. The nurses and other staff on the ward were patient and quick to respond. Mr Toft, the surgeon came to see me before and after the operation. He did an excellent job during the op, whilst at the same time being very respectful of the other scrub staff. I heard "thank you" and "please" more often than anything else. The spinal block was 100% effective and post op care thorough. I was home the next day with follow up physio and pain care in hand. I would thoroughly recommend the hospital and all its staff. The day after I got home I got a further letter from the other hospital cancelling my consultants appointment and rescheduling it, followed by another one a couple of days later cancelling the new one and rescheduling it... now for 19th April. I'm a supporter of the NHS, had my other hip done in an NHS hospital 18 years ago - but the system is patently failing to deliver and therefore wasting time shuffling queues around instead of being able to help patients. It must be frustrating for the NHS staff, and is no wonder they don't answer the phone 9 times out of 10.

Really impressive! My dad was referred here by his GP for a TKR as a national health patient. Appointment today less than 2 weeks after the referral. In the space of 1h20mins, seen by a consultant, bloods, ecg, consented, imaging, pre operative instructions all sorted. Informed that he is now on a waiting list of approximately 3 months which is brilliant! All the staff so polite and pleasant, hospital immaculate and free parking. Such a shame that local NHS trusts can’t operate a similar setup, they’d slice the waiting lists in no time!

My Husband went for a private consultation with the eye specialist re cataract he was offered the option of nhs lens or an enhanced lens at a further cost of £200 which my husband agreed to, when sent the invoice it had gone up a further £300, he contacted the hospital they apologised but said the enhanced one was £500, a couple of days before the procedure we was sent 2 lots of eye drops with instructions to put them in on the day of the procedure at 1 hour before arrival at 15 min intervals, Was told his appointment was for 12oclock, on arrival was taken to the waiting area with 3 people before him, he didn’t go in till just after 1.30. We didn’t feel like he was treated like a private patient, He felt the procedure was better on the NHS when he had his other Cataract done.

Had full knee replacement ( left) been messed around for last 7 years by different hospitals , ended up here , on 16th September, absolutely fantastic, treated very well by everyone, the nurses very helpful, friendly, especially Kelly and shauny, my surgeon was Mr springer. Did a fantastic job. Infact all the colleagues here are all very helpful and friendly. The food is good, plenty of cup of tea & biscuits available throughout day and night. Was back there yesterday for my first physio session, and back again next week for my second. I'm now on my way to hopefully full recovery, Thank you.

Have recently had a total knee replacement at Barlborough hosp under the NHS. From seeing my GP to discuss my knee problem I was referred to Barlborough. I had my pre op assessment a few days later on a Tues and was in for my op on the following Sunday. This was all within 3 weeks. The op was done under a spinal injection (which worried me as I would be awake). It was absolutely fine and pain free. I was only supposed to be in overnight but a complication (no fault of the staff) meant I was in for 4 days. All of the staff were very caring and thoughtful and nothing was too much trouble. They understood the after pain involved and were very very tolerant. The food was absolutely brilliant and plenty of it. Re the after care. The physio staff were just as caring and determined to get the best outcome for each individual. After being discharged they are just as caring. I phoned up with a question and the physio booked me in for an appointment to help put my mind at rest. I went back twice and saw a physio called Orville who was simply brilliant. I felt I had waisted his time and he did his utmost to convince me that that wasn't the case. He explained everything I needed to know and put my mind at rest. I would 100% recommend this hosp as I cannot sing it's praises highly enough.
