Even though the surf school doesn’t sell surfing talent, you can certainly have a good go at surfing with their lessons. I don’t float very easily because I am fat so naturally surfing isn’t an ideal hobby for me. It does look really cool on Instagram though and you can also edit the videos to make you appear to be at least somewhat competent surfing even if you’re not. So yeah, this surf school makes you somewhat competent at surfing - at least enough to boast on Instagram that you’re good. And that’s exactly what I was after so 5 stars from me 😂

I was on the one month beginner course. Really enjoyed it, Emma was a great teacher and really encouraging. Olly was great too. I went in with very low confidence and was really happy with my progress by the end of the four weeks. Would definitely recommend

Hugh, the owner, was more than happy to talk me through fin setup for my board. Later, Emma/Emily went into more detail for me, giving loads of advice. All staff really friendly. 6/5 stars.

Recently completed an improver's course with Porthcawl surf school. It was over 4 sessions, each lasting two hours - it ended up across Saturday's or Sunday's, over 5 weeks due to conditions. Some video teaching but vast majority of teaching was in the sea. Progression was the aim, with small goals being identified for each of the sessions building from the previous session. Whilst safety was highlighted, skills development and importantly fun were the key focal points. I was by far the old man of the sea being the oldest and then some. But the rest of the group were great and a big thank you to our instructor Mike for his input and tweaks; and to everyone else at the school. Great team, great facilities and location.

Excellent surf rental, the two guys working in the shop were super friendly and helpful. The surfboard I hired was in excellent condition. I hired a wetsuit, gloves and hood also. You can leave your car keys with the staff. There are no changing rooms so it's good to leave your keys with the staff.

Was given the wrong size board despite stating my weight, but children loved the day. Would definitely return but would insist on a weight appropriate board second time around. Staff were friendly and otherwise helpful. Price is excellent and encourages sport in South Wales.
