We enjoyed a little stop off here, theres enough to see to make it worthwhile going. You feel like you are walking on history and there are plenty of cool details. The castle could do with a tidy of the grounds and clearly suffers some vandalism which is a shame. Not sure if owner or local volunteers try to keep it in good order as its free to look around. 2 mins walk to the church is also worthit, the church yard had some really cool headstones / historic text which i enjoyed looking at.

Nice to visit if in area. Parking for 2-3 cars outside or grass verge further down towards old church which is worth a visit too. You can now access the inside of castle as locks cut. No information boards.

Interesting remains of a 12 century Norman motte and bailey castle. Its changed ownership many times over the centuries, starting off with William the conqueror half brother. All that remains is the gate tower and the remaining vaulted cellars at the back. Stone from here was used for the church at swainby. Its a shame that its been left in this state

Small-ish but well worth a visit! Lovely short walk (slightly steep) from the town, or you can drive up to the castle. Someone has cut through the barrier so if you are rebellious and feeling game you can poke your head up to peek out of the upper windows. There’s the old gatehead tower, and then some cellar/wall ruins as well. Beautiful rural area

Incredible ruins but closed to public for safety. A small path around the back but again, not advised for safety. The church and graveyard just up the road from it is quite interesting too!
