After a lot of thought I took my great great grandmother's sampler to be framed at Pomfret Gallery, as the existing basic frame it had been put in about 30 years ago seemed to have been causing deterioration in the stitching over some years, it probably hadn't been acid-free. The assistant there (Richard) was very helpful, friendly but not pressurising, he spent time showing me various options of frames and, although at first I chose a light oak colour, I then preferred a brushed gold look one which seemed to go with it better and he reassured me was also one of the cheaper ones which was good. He also advised about the size in proportion to the sampler, and the background mount. I realised I needed some sort of anti-UV glass and they provide that which is also non-reflective, I think they describe it as specialist glass, and their mounts, backings etc are acid free. They phoned me a bit sooner than the two weeks specified, to collect it, and I was delighted when I saw it, frame and size just suited it so well and did it justice and brought it to life. I had realised that it might cost quite a bit to get it framed, but I felt I was a sort of custodian of it who needed to protect it, it cost £73 which I felt was a fair price though like I said I had considered it a long time before going to Pomfret Gallery but I am really glad I did.
