Due to overnight rain the fields were unusually muddy, though the provided walkways did make getting around much easier than it might otherwise have been!! We were fortunate enough to have been guests of Giess Wallis Crisp and were thus treated to excellent hospitality, an abundance of wonderful home cooked pies, quiches and superb sausage rolls complemented by a great choice of freshly prepared sandwiches which ensured that no-one could possibly go hungry, this in addition to a good and readily available choice of wine and beer, not to mention the exceptional offerings 'on-tap' from the Italian themed 'Salute!' where a seemingly endless supply of Prosecco and Peroni, not to mention some delicious Prosecco based cocktails, were served impeccably from a wonderfully restored Piaggio-style vehicle which most certainly stamped a little piece of Italy on Essex soil 🇮🇹🇬🇧🇮🇹 We very much hope to come again!! 🤞🏻

I visit this event every year because of its atmosphere and because its an opportunity to enjoy one of the benefits of living in the country. The racing is fun though dont expect to win any money with the bookies, as the favorites all go off at "odds on" prices and overall the odds are short! This year the weather on the day was Ok but overnight rain had turned the ground very muddy which had two effects, firstly many owners/trainers withdrew their horses from racing and secondly it was difficult to move around without getting very dirty - none of that is cause from complaint of course, just an observation for anyone considering visiting in the future. I would say that £15 per head entrance does seem a bit excessive given the limited facilities available however given that this fee does not include a programme and these have to be purchased at extra cost. Unless you are fortunate enough to be a "Young Farmer" or member of another privilged group such as an owner, there is no dedicated covered area to shelter from any heavy rain - though the beer tent does provide some protection whilst you queue! On the plus side one big bonus is the large screen showing the Grand National live at the conclusion of the P2P. Overall the event is well run and provided you understand what to expect, enjoyable - although I do think the entrance fee a bit steep given you will doubtless be spending lots of cash during the day on food and drink etc so the charity collection of monies at the exit as you leave seems a bit inappropriate/oppressive !!

Races had far fewer horses than listed. Chilly weather but that's not the organisers fault :) . Plenty of toilets thank goodness. Very crowded and a bit too "country set" for me. Pleased I went for the experience but wouldn't go again.
