We offer a variety of blood products including red blood cells, platelets, plasma, and cryoprecipitate. We always strive to maintain a readily available supply of all blood products to ensure that patients in need receive timely transfusions.

What are the requirements for donating blood and how often can one donate?

To donate blood, one must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health. Donors must also pass a medical history and mini-physical exam before donating. In the UK, one can donate blood up to 3 times a year for men and up to 4 times a year for women.

What steps do you take to ensure the safety and quality of the blood supply?

We take several steps to ensure the safety and quality of the blood supply. All blood donations are screened for infectious diseases, including HIV, hepatitis B and C, and syphilis. We also perform blood group and antibody testing to ensure that patients receive compatible blood products. Our facilities and equipment are regularly inspected and maintained to ensure that they meet the highest standards of cleanliness and safety.

No, there are no fees associated with blood donations or receiving blood products. All blood donations are voluntary and provided free of charge to patients in need. We rely on the generosity of our donors to maintain a sufficient supply of blood products.

How do you handle and respond to adverse reactions or complications from blood transfusions?

We take all adverse reactions and complications from blood transfusions very seriously. Our staff are trained to recognize and respond to these situations quickly and effectively. We have protocols in place for managing adverse reactions and complications, including providing immediate medical care and reporting incidents to regulatory authorities. We also investigate all incidents to identify the cause and take steps to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

If walking, go past main entrance then turn right down the hill. If driving, the nearest car park is C. However, you will have to pay to park. I believe that there are 4 free parking spaces that donors can use in one of the main car parks. Look for the large cream chimney as the centre is situated next to this. Upon arrival you are greeted at reception & they run through security checks. You need to drink 500ml of water & have a (supplied) snack before you donate. You will also need to read the donation information beforehand also. Donating blood takes around an hour from start to finish. Whilst donating you can choose to watch their TV, read or check your mobile. The staff are very attentive, caring & knowledgeable. After your donation, when your blood gets used, you will be informed which hospital it went to.

So easy to give blood these days. After years of thinking about giving blood and never getting round to it I have now done it 5 times in just over a year. You can register online and book or change appointments via their app, they are now doing 5 days a week. There are donor centres all over and you can book wherever is best for you. The app also has loads of information for all your queries for all you first timers. Staff are always welcoming and friendly. Donations take around 30 mins in total including pre checks and setup and afterwards you get a drink and snack. Parking here is free for donors curtousy of their donors parking area which is coded on exit. Dont be tempted to use it if you are not donating as you will only get the code after donating. Get donating and help to save lives. You know it's worth it.
