I first found Marc around September 2021 and he helped me with a few small jobs, which were promptly dealt with and I was satisfied with his service. Those jobs were installing a pump to rectify low water pressure in my apartment and replacing an existing (faulty) electric shower. I was having a few issues with my aged boiler (which recently had the pump installed) and discussed this with Marc, after which he suggested installing an unvented electric water cylinder. Having done some research, I decided I would like to go with this option and asked him to confirm whether he held the necessary qualifications - due to the high pressure of unvented water systems, one needs to hold a G3 Certificate and obtain a building regulations certificate (based on loose research, it appears that it would be a criminal offence to install unvented cylinders). Marc advised that he was a fit and competent person under the G3 scheme, and that he would obtain the building regulations certificate - he shared pictures of several recent installations and on that basis, I decided for him to do the installation. Shortly after the installation, there were a few minor issues with the boiler which were put right. However, I started to suspect Marc was lying to me (just a gut feeling, nothing else) and began asking for evidence of his qualification and also the building regulations certificate. I was fobbed off over the period of a few months until eventually, Marc went completely off the radar. During this time, the shower that he had installed was also failing (burning through the shower unit). I'd instructed an electric to check on the installation, and he advised that it was negligently unsafe and could have caused serious harm had it not been picked up. At this point, I began researching the requirements for valid installations of unvented boilers and read the installation manual. It turns out, a lot of the safety features hadn't been included - I'd taken opinions from a few other G3 plumbers and they all agreed. Unfortunately, it cost me a fair amount of money to pay for another qualified plumber to put this right (after Marc had ignored me) but unfortunately, another plumber will not apply / sign off on someone else's original work and so I'm left without a regulatory certificate and due to the negligent installation, I'm also left without the 25-year manufacturers warranty on the boiler. Unfortunately, with Marc now ignoring my calls and messages, I have no other way to contact him, as he has done a good job of hiding his address. Fortunately, I should be able to trace down his address and will be submitting an application to the tribunal. It was disappointing that as soon as something went wrong, Marc disappeared off the face of the earth - I could see he was online on Whatsapp but refusing to open my messages (and got screenshots showing him online). He must have also been under pressure from other customers, as his google page disappeared for a good 6-9 months. I continually tried to reassure him that we could resolve this between ourselves - ideally with him paying for repairs, but this was to no avail. As such, I have today sent him a formal letter before legal action, and assume that he ignores this, will take steps to begin tribunal action. I've been advised by Citizen's advice that I am entitled to a full refund as the installation was defective within the first six months. In summary, Marc was brilliant at responding and attending initially until something went wrong - at which point, integrity went out the window. He also advised that he had been doing a lot of these installations, which leads me to think...how many other dangerous installations are currently out there? On his technical abilities, I wouldn't recommend Marc for anything other than small, minor plumbing work but based on his ethical behaviour in my experience, I would actively discourage anyone from using him. Edit: Since posting this review, Marc has gotten several new 5 star reviews in the space of 5 hours.... suspicious. Service: Water tank installation
