I found Philip after a few days of scouring google and various celebrant websites for my father's funeral. After reading his website, I thought he would be someone who could understand the sensitivities of our situation as well as bring perspective and a fresh air to the service. After a quick phone call he seemed just right. The initial process started with a visit to my house to discuss our wishes, as well as the logistics of the funeral and plans for the order of service. I was quite clear that I wanted a non-religious ceremony with a sprinkle of spirituality in honour of my dad’s newly found piety. Philip explained the process to us very clearly and I felt assured that with his professionalism and experience, that we would give my father a beautiful end. By the end of the meeting we had a plan in motion. Being that we chose a fairly family led service, this meant that we had to write speeches as well as choose our readings and music, which we sent over to Philip a few days before the funeral. This gave him time to fashion the rest of the service. On the day of the funeral, Philip spoke wonderfully and everything went smoothly and as planned. He was a great support when I needed it most. I would highly recommend Philip to friends and family for any special ceremony.

Philip Dundas came highly recommended from the funeral director, William Beckett. During an informal home visit he guided me through the process and outlined a broad framework. A good listener, he was soon cognisant of my basic concept and offered innovative ideas to further that vision. First impressions were of someone who was both supportive and empathic. Philip delivered a speech that was moving and heartfelt. His compassion and profound understanding of loss shone through. A well-researched and inspired narrative clearly demonstrated his talent as a published novelist. And beyond the raw emotions of personal bereavement, he explored their spiritual and universal dimensions with eloquence. I was grateful to find a Humanist celebrant since my deceased friend, though spiritual, had no affinity with organised religions. Moreover, after the 2021 England & Wales Census, and over a third of the population declaring themselves as non-religious, there’s a clear and growing need for celebrants such as Philip. (For many, the imposition of a religious service would represent an unwelcome and inappropriate intrusion into personal grief.) I’m ever grateful to Philip for his support, creativity and professionalism during a time of great sadness.

He helped her partner, family and friends to shape an end of life service for her that enabled us to remember her with love and celebrate her life together with happy memories and laughter through the tears. From the time that Philip met me to get information about my deceased partner, it was clear the extent to which he showed devotion and professionalism in his work. This was again demonstrated in his conduction of the ceremony at the crematorium. My dear old dad didn’t ever discuss his wishes for his funeral so we really had to start at the very beginning. Philip helped us work something up from bits and pieces we knew. He spent time with us to ask questions about dad, his life and his personality. He researched the details which brought dad’s story to life and the eulogy was spot on. Beautiful and sensitive and delivered with dads sense of humour. Importantly he planned the service from start to finish , so we all knew where we were and what we were supposed to do on the day. When I walked towards the chapel I saw Philip looking so professional and calm and I immediately knew the funeral would be ok. It was more than ok in the end it was perfect and just what dad would have wanted! Cannot recommend highly enough
