I attended and completed the Powerboat Level 2: Powerboat Handling course on 11th and 12th June, 2022, so my review is fairly up-to-date. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Leigh Marina with Michael and the other students. It is undeniably clear that Michael has many years of boating experience under his belt, and he is able to teaching his students effectively. If you're considering taking this course and have no experience in boating, please don't be scared - Michael mentored me excellently and I loved it by the end of the second day. The Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) we used wasn't particularly powerful, so you won't go astray (Michael will take control before anything particularly wrong is about to happen), but it had enough power to practice higher-speed manoeuvres further into the Thames Estuary. The course is less about long-distance journeys and more about practical operation of powerboats (which is what you'd expect in a basic course), meaning that you'll be able to start, set-off, turn, park, moor and anchor a powerboat safely by the end of day two, as well as applying 'Man Overboard!' procedures - because it teaches the fundamentals of powerboats, it is an ideal course to get you started in boating. Michael is a fantastic teacher and I expect to be back to do more advanced courses soon.

I took a Kayak starter course today which was a gift for my 40th birthday. It was my first time kayaking and any nerves i had arriving quickly dissolved away as Mike was an attentive and patient teacher from the off. I have come away from the lesson with a good working knowledge of the basics I needed to start heading out on my own, and Mike has even offered advice on the best kayak to buy. If you are thinking of taking up kayaking give Mike a call, you won't be disappointed!
