Beautiful. Peaceful. Magical. We can't wait to return to Pengelly! Thank you to Ruth and Jim for a wonderful stay.

Magic lies within! Left the real world behind to enter a patch of cornish paradise. Listened to a full rendition of the dawn chorus without any interruption of modern day traffic noise. Soaked in the morning sunshine floating around on the paddle board reading my book. Cannot express enough the joy of having a beautifully hot outdoor shower overlooking the lake. Upon returning home I've had more than one moment of sadness looking at my dull indoor shower and realising how my plain white ceilings are no comparison to the beautifully hand crafted, fairy lit cocoon that the sail house Tipi offers in abundance. Mark my words, I will return!

Me and my partner stayed in the Boat House with stunning views of the lake. Ruth and Jim both welcomed us and couldn't have been nicer. We felt if there were any problems (there were none!) we could approach them. Although we paid to stay in the house, the grounds surrounding felt like a bonus as we were able to explore the beautifully kept gardens and paths to our heart's content. In this area of Cornwall there is so much to do within just half an hour drive away so when we got tired of relaxing we were able to nip out and take in the sights! I highly recommend the Slice Of Cornwall café towards Falmouth, but be sure to book in advance! We couldn't have asked for a better getaway and will be sure to return in the warmer weather.

We had a lovely weekend at Pengelly Retreat, one of the most idyllic and peaceful places that we've ever stayed. The yurt has everything that you need and is set in beautiful gardens, and a good location for exploring other parts of Cornwall. Hope to return in the future.

We (family of 3 + dog) spent a rainy New Years break in the Sail House at Pengelly and it was lovely. The rain just added to the cosy feeling in the very luxurious Yurt ! Log burner, underfloor heating, full size bath and cinema... definitely more than your average glamping experience. Ruth and Jim were super accommodating and helped with anything we needed, whether it be the accommodation or surrounding area. A great base to explore what south-western most Cornwall has to offer. The Yurt is very private and there is plenty to explore in the grounds too. We took our four-legged friend and he loved it, from lying in front of the fire to exploring the grounds. We would throughly recommend.

Perfect way to celebrate my sixtieth , the Sail House yurt was everything we could have asked for. Very private location, even more so as the boat house was unoccupied for the duration of our stay. Super snug with the wood-burning stove going, comfortable bed and lovely bathroom with deep standalone bath. Great to be able to step straight out of the yurt and into the lake, I was swimming before sunrise every day despite some wild and wet weather although the water was very weedy towards the middle. The outdoors hot shower is great, very welcome after a cold water dip. We enjoyed the tranquility of the place, we were serenaded by owls every night, pheasants and moorhens as an alarm clock ! The outdoors lighting is a nice touch and essential for finding your way back in the dark. Pengelly Retreat is ideally placed to explore both north and south coasts, both equal distance (15-20 mins drive) away . Recommend Kota Kai in Porthleven also M&S food in Hayle convenient if you don't want to cook from scratch. Strong winds and rough seas mean the south coast unswimmable, but enjoyed swimming in the rock-pool at Pendeen Cove and from the beautiful sand beach at Portheras.

We came here for a last minute break in October 2022. On the sunny days the Boat House lit up with golden light and rainbows and we opened the French doors onto the glorious lake views. On the duller days we lit the woodburner and cuddled up in unbelievably cosy bliss! There's a wooden couch/bench seat which is roomy and perfectly comfortable for lounging or sitting for meals at the table. The remarkably well thought out attractive corner kitchen area was great. Not over keen on the 2 ring induction hob, as we have a gas cooker at home, but luckily I have used one before otherwise I'd have been stumped (but it is the safest option). There's also a microwave and a slow cooker as well as a toaster. With warmer weather we would have definitely used the sunken firepit outside. We very much enjoyed exploring the grounds, with the carefully tended gardens, huge variety of plants and trees, mowed pathways through the bright emerald grass, secret garden with slippery decking pathways and woodland, enticing little bridges and ponds, Buddha statues, treehouse, tipi, ponds and lakes. Even in October there was lots of seasonal interest with red acer leaves, berries, sparkling spiderwebs in the morning dew and dried seed heads. The Retreat is surrounded on all sides by farmland, so this adds to the space and peacefulness. We didn't see much wildlife apart from a couple of tiny water birds and a few songbirds tweeting in the trees - it would have been lovely to see ducks and swans. We would love to come back next year and have already made a list of all the useful things we need to bring - such as rubber gloves, a dish drainer and a sharp kitchen knife that cuts!! Pretty much everything else is already there. The cabin is a wonderfully comfortable and restful space, just right for two - intimate, inviting, clean, very quiet and secluded, very cosy and warm. The underfloor heating is apparently only programmed to come on if the temperature is cold enough, but the insulation and double glazing, plus heated towel rail (not to mention the woodburner, what a treat!) meant we were never cold and often too hot!! The bed was very comfortable and warm. The little bathroom was compact but well laid out, with a hot shower, generously sized sink, and loo, with some cleaning equipment in the boiler tank cupboard. Luxury fluffy towels, shampoo and body wash are supplied. There's a sun deck with outside sofa and a verandah running around the outside of the cabin, so we could sit outside or lean on the railing to gaze out at the peaceful water. Also an outdoor bath with screening, though being October it wasn't quite warm enough to use it! We enjoyed tweaking the setup slightly to suit ourselves, and noted a few things we would alter if we lived here permanently (which seemed like a very attractive option after a few days of peace and quiet!) E.g. I would put the bin under the sink and replace the decorative 'ladder' on the wall with proper shelving to add useful extra storage. I'd add bedside tables, a long hook to open and close the skylight blind, fix the extractor fan .....Just minor tweaks. One thing we enjoyed using was the movie projector kit, we were able to lie in bed and watch movies once it got dark. There are blackout blinds on the bedroom windows and a screen to enclose off the bedroom area from the living area (we draped towels over it to block out light). The big French doors have bamboo slat blinds which filter the light rather than making it totally dark - rather a suitable option as you don't really want to totally shut off the outside world or fall over things at night, though they wouldn't shut out the sunrise in summer! It felt surprisingly spacious in the cabin, as the vaulted roof added space, and it felt the perfect size for a married couple, with the large living area at the frontand good sized bedroom area at the other end. All in all, we would definitely recommend the Boat House and Pengelly Retreat to anyone wishing for a peaceful getaway and lots of quiet and space to relax and unwind.

Wow, what a stunning place. We were lucky enough to have Pengelly Retreat as our wedding venue, and could not have asked for a more glorious, peaceful and relaxed ceremony. With views to take your breath away- we hired the boathouse and the sailhouse yurt and enjoyed wild swimming in the lake, campfire evenings, hot outdoor shower and a stag deer sighting on our wedding morning! It really was a stay never to forget. Ruth and Jim were fantastic and so welcoming. This place really is special.
