FAQ

How do you price your items in comparison to their original retail value?

We price our items based on a variety of factors, including rarity, condition, and demand. While we take into account the original retail value, it is not the sole determining factor. We strive to offer fair prices for both our customers and ourselves.

Are there any specific policies or restrictions regarding returns or exchanges?

Yes, we have a specific return policy that outlines the conditions under which we accept returns or exchanges. We do not accept returns for items that have been damaged or altered in any way by the customer, and we do not offer refunds for items that have been marked as "final sale."

Can you provide information on the history of a particular antique?

We do our best to research and provide as much information as possible on the history of each antique item we sell. However, due to the age and nature of some items, it can be difficult to find comprehensive information. We are always happy to share any information we have found with our customers.

What measures do you take to authenticate the rare books you sell?

We have a team of experts who specialize in authenticating rare books. They carefully examine each book for signs of authenticity, including examining the binding, paper, and other elements. We also conduct thorough research on the book's history and provenance to ensure its authenticity.

Do you offer any discounts for bulk or ongoing purchases?

Yes, we offer discounts for bulk purchases or ongoing purchases. The specific discount will vary depending on the items and the quantity purchased. Please contact us for more information on our bulk purchase discounts.

Fantastic book shop, quirky and full of oddities. A Manchester staple. Paramount is something out of a book you could read in their fantasy selection. They have an excellent range of comics and send hand books. Even a piece of fruit or veg with every purchase. The staff are wonderful, helpful and quirky. The mandatory mask policy seems to be controversial with some, but personally never bothered me. The no photograph or being on the phone rule is a bit stranger. But I can appreciate the no phone call bit. There is a slight musty smell, but, what else do old books en masses smell like eh? The reason it's great, is you do find many odd gems of books you would struggle to find elsewhere. I've personally found a very expensive rare book that goes on ebay for £100 for £5 here. Know what you want and come here and you'll find gems galore. The music and upstairs vintage clothes section is just a plus.

Was really looking forward to visiting this shop on my recent trip to Manchester. However despite it being 2023 (yes *23*) the owner is still refusing to let non-masked customers from entering the shop, which is both irrational and illegal. The covid authoritarians just don't want to let it go. Shame as it looked quite good and I'd have probably bought quite a few things here, but there's no way I'm placating someone else's ill-informed paranoia and control freakery.

I go to my Surgery, no requirement to wear a mask, I went to this bookshop, and somehow the owner knows more about Covid-19 than medical professionals. I was immediately commanded to put on a mask upon entering the shop. I left the shop after 5 minutes, as I wear glasses, and wearing masks means I can't see a thing. The shop had a miserable atmosphere, and I will not ever go back. Bernard Black is friendlier.

Quirky bookshop unlike anywhere else in Manchester. Several collectible books in German and French. Good set of Gallimards. Jazz music bounces off the facing Arndale Centre wall. Comics, black and white photos of artists, very good collection of books about Charles Dickens. Enjoy the fruit/ garlic you can have with your change.
