Looking at the recent reviews, mostly five star, I wondered if there was some fakery going on but after this afternoon's experience I'm sure they are genuine and am happy to add another five. It was very well done indeed. On the printed menu the sequence of sandwiches, cheese scones, pastries, and finally raisin scones with clotted cream and preserves looked quite daunting but in fact it was beautifully judged. Every single item (five different sandwiches for example) brought interesting different flavours, all delicious and with real intensity - but the pieces weren't too big and at the end we felt we'd had just the right amount and were glad we'd declined refills. Real thought and imagination must have gone into devising all this, and everything on the plate was fresh and memorable. We were celebrating my nephew's birthday and were brought a beautiful extra cake with a candle, on top of which was a quite big chocolate crown which we took away in the elegant pink box provided. Seventeen different teas were on offer - we were keen to try unfamiliar ones and the waiter's recommendations were spot on. £75 a head isn't cheap but this was an experience that will stay with us and well worth it. Several waiters looked after us, all pleasant and engaging - we wondered if a better way to do it would be a consistent person through the afternoon? But we left very happy.
