I've ended up in a 'muddle' when trying to decide on a suitable long distance trekking bike on the internet. Eventually I decided to find a company in the area who might be able to help me by giving suitable advice. That's how I found Oxford Bike Works. After an initial chat over the phone I went to see Richard at his workshop where I was able to have a test ride on one of his bikes and he also did a bike fitting - just in case... Well, the case is now finished and I am the proud owner of an Oxford Bike Works trekking bike! After having spent hours on the internet doing research it was really refreshing to actually speaking to a real person (Richard) and getting all the advice I was after. There's wasn't a question Richard couldn't answer, him drawing from his own experiences but also the ones from his former customer. Full marks to Oxford Bike Works! Nothing was too much trouble. Last minute little changes, getting an opinion on the panniers I wanted, organising the red coloured pedals, having the bike explained to me in great detail etc. I've received great service all the way through and the bike was finished even a couple of weeks before the agreed date! So far, I only had one long ride on it and everything works very smoothly. From the Rohloff gearing to the disc brakes and it came as a surprise how fast the bike actually is. Thank you very much Richard, well done!

We live in Australia and ordered 2 Model 1 bikes via email- the whole process went very smoothly. Richard was a delight to deal with, he asked for simple measurements to ensure the bikes would be built to the exact size needed. We arrived at his workshop where the bikes were waiting, a final adjustment and test ride and we were off. We have ridden across Europe and currently in Serbia. The bikes have been perfect, handling gravel tracks and some serious rough stuff. Great bikes, prompt excellent customer service and all at an affordable price. Highly recommended. Thanks Richard!

I bought a Model 1 with a front flat rack. Interaction was amazing: measured up, test drive, all questions (no matter how stupid) answered clearly and patiently. I cannot imagine better service. The bike is beautiful, robust and exactly what I wanted. A smooth ride, my last bike felt like cycling through treacle by comparison. Looking forward to some long journeys. Highly recommended.

I 've just brought a model 1 from Oxford Bike works. I spent about 6 months researching flat bar steel frame touring bikes before I settled on the model 1. The bike itself is so far is excellent. Solidly built and comfortable. The whole process of test riding and choosing the exact spec of the bike was good too. Richard is both knowledgeable and asks the right questions during this process to get you to think about what you want and need from a bike. Happy everything so far.

Bought my Expedition bike and what a gem it is. Went all out and have had it for about 3 weeks, all ready done 400km and yesterday started a 6 day 550km coast to coast ride in Spain no complaints at all, the bike is bomb proof and Richard really knows his stuff. If you are thinking about getting a bike, then you can shop around but if you want your own individual bike rather than a generic one then you won’t find any better.

We were looking for two robust touring/expedition bikes. After significant research into our options and viewing several other manufacturers we arranged a meeting with Richard. Thoroughly enjoyable experience we spent a morning designing our potential steeds. We were given lots of valuable advice based on his experience. Richard prepared a couple of bikes for us to test for size and comfort. We took a ride around the local area. Placed orders For model 2 with some extra modifications and they were ready in 6 weeks. The bikes are exactly what we required. Deceptively agile and light with slick gearing and robust quirky colour frames. Delightfully comfortable to ride and look fantastic. Value for money these bikes ticked all the boxes for a long distance camping/ tourer. We are delighted with bikes and the 5 star service we ha e received.

I ordered a Stivvy with custom forks so I could use fork cages on longer trips rather than a full front loader system. I have to say, the process was a joy from start to end, and Richard was always helpful and very patient with my many queries. I saw him for a Covid-safe fit and a chat over a cup of tea, and test rode some bikes to see how bits and pieces I might have on my final spec worked out for me in practice. I went home to have a think, and then took the plunge - there's no hard sell at all - but tbh I actually decided to go ahead on the train on the way home. The resulting bike is gorgeous, and has just the right mix of components for the plans I have, plus a bit of room for expansion so future proof too (and the Magura rim brakes Richard suggested are a thing of brilliance, sharp as you like, and will not need bleeding even if we fly somewhere). I'm really looking forward to my first proper trip, as I'm fairly sure I'm not making the most of the bike on my trips to Tesco, much fun as they are..... can't recommend Richard and Oxford Bike Works highly enough.
