I wanted to leave a comprehensive review for all those considering eye treatment with Optimax – word count is sadly limiting. I am very eye phobic so going through with surgery has been a milestone to say the least. I started exposing myself to pictures of eyes and taking eye drops myself at home in a multitude of ways to become less sensitive to the subject. Parents never really took me to tests so it wasn't until I was learning to drive that I even realised my sight was bad. Having glasses has been a pain for many reasons, the way they look, forgetting them, exercise and sports debilitating etc. I understand up to 25 years old your eyes fluctuate so getting this done sooner was not an option. 28 seemed the best time. I had the consultation back in June 2021 at the Hove branch. This cost £10.00 which was refunded after attending. The consultation was very easy despite my nerves, all the things people tell you about the eye pressure test (air blowing one) are nonsense you don't even feel anything! After eye machine tests which are simply looking at lights I met with a specialist who was already aware I was anxious. He did the usual eye tests reading letters on screen etc. and checking the current prescription as well as the level of vision we are hoping to achieve with surgery which was 2 lines below 20 20. We discussed the risks as well but all seems very confident for a good outcome. There were 2 eye drops, one done while I was looking at a bright light during examination this was to check if I suffer with dry eyes as apparently if you do before surgery you could develop this chronically after, glad to say I do not. If your anxious of even drops the guy was amazing he had this technique where he used one finger to slightly touch the eye lid and boom it was in, didn't even feel it. The next drop was to dilate the pupils hence the need for a lift as it makes you sensitive to light and in my case my near vision for reading became poor for a few hours. Initially it does have a kick to it (think of salt and vinegar crisp's if you ever accidentally got some of that in your eye once), for about 30 seconds but he was ready with the tissues and just said to keep them closed until it stops the stinging effect. Soon enough it was gone and pupils were massive. Good news is the tests revealed I was a good candidate for LASIK (24 hour recovery surgery). The next step was the surgeon call, I was expecting a long chat about everything but it was literally a 60 second WhatsApp chat. This part costs £30.00 which is deducted from the surgery costs. My surgeon was Dr Ghassan Ayoubi, his profile says he has been doing this for 34 years and over 36,000 procedures and his name sparks positive reviews everywhere I looked. The next call was to discuss the cost, I opted for the deposit of £500.00 and monthly finance which was easily setup via a link emailed to me. Surgery was booked for 14th August 2021 at Southampton due to Hove being closed (discount also offered due to this). I also asked my GP for a sedative and they have given lorazepam for the day. The day of surgery came and i was nervous to say the least, the sedative my GP gave was less than useless and had no effect so do ask for something better than Lorazepam! Pre-surgery checks were done, a hat and shoe covers too and then I was lead to the operating table. After closed eye lids were wiped and the aesthetic drops given, in seconds they were working. I cannot lie the hardest part for me personally was the eye lid holder but the surgeon kept talking to me the whole way through. Your don't really see anything beyond the 1st machine which creates the LASIK flap, just lights, vision goes black or white at different stages. It’s just an odd pressure on the eyes which did make me flinch a bit. You are asked to just keep still or look ahead (if you can even see anyway due to the above mentioned vision). I didn't really hear the machines working but did briefly smell the burning smell. Recovery not complete but already this has made a massive change to my life. THANK YOU OPTIMAX!

Booked a free consultation. The staff were very friendly. The optometrist explained the procedure well and answered all of my questions. I ended up cancelling the procedure due to a change of heart. The receptionist on the phone was very understanding. Though I did not get laser eye surgery, I can say that my experience with Optimax was very positive.

I had such a positive experience with Optimax Hove. They are such professionals and put me at ease throughout every stage of the process. Zena is an absolute credit to the company - she is so friendly and efficient. Also as she has had laser eye surgery herself, she gave us useful, personal advice. Dr Ayoubi was willing to answer any questions during the initial consultation and even provides his personal number for the night of the surgery. I would highly recommend anyone to get it done and wish I had done it sooner!
