FAQ
What is your mission statement and how do you aim to achieve it?
Our mission is to provide free surgeries to children born with cleft lip and cleft palate. We aim to achieve this by partnering with local medical professionals in underserved areas, providing them with the necessary training and equipment to perform safe surgeries, and conducting medical missions to reach as many children as possible. What specific programs or initiatives do you offer for the community?
In addition to our medical missions, we offer comprehensive care for patients including dental treatment, speech therapy, and psychosocial support. We also have a student program that educates and engages young people in our mission, and a fundraising program that allows individuals and organizations to support our work. How do you allocate your funding and what percentage goes towards program expenses?
We allocate our funding based on the needs of the communities we serve and the number of surgeries we plan to perform. At least 80% of our funding goes towards program expenses, including medical supplies, transportation, and training for local medical professionals. Can you provide examples of past successes and the impact your organization has made?
Over the past 38 years, we have provided over 300,000 free surgeries to children in need in over 60 countries. Our patients have gone on to lead healthy, productive lives free from the stigma and isolation often associated with cleft conditions. We have also helped to build local capacity for safe surgery by training over 27,000 medical professionals. How do you measure the effectiveness and impact of your programs on the community?
We track our impact through various metrics, including the number of surgeries performed, patient satisfaction, and improvements in speech and oral health. We also conduct follow-up visits with patients to ensure the long-term success of their surgeries and monitor the capacity-building efforts of our local partners.Reviews

I make regular donations to this charity, and tried to donate as a good luck gift, on behalf of a beautiful new baby. He has masses of clothing, so I thought this would be a perfect good luck gift. I asked that the acknowledgement be sent to the child's parents. This wasn't possible. Many other charities take donations as Christmas gifts etc, for other parties, and acknowledge direct to them. Made gift anyway, but disappointed I couldn't get a nice gift acknowledgement sent by Operation Smile, to his parents.
