Exceptional site with the romantic ruins and grottos to explore. you can get up to the tower and the upper floors are accessible thanks to restoration. It is tricky to get to and many of the back roads are in a terrible state of repair so leave a bit of extra time. There were preparations for a wedding the day we visited - what an amazing venue for a reception - must have cost them a fortune.

Firstly, getting here is a bit of a pain with lots of single track roads so be patient! There is a car park on site although I can imagine it is cramped on event days. The staff for our visit were fabulous, really friendly and helpful and that make a huge difference. The castle grounds are well kept and there were plenty of information boards throughout which explained about the history of the building and associated families. There were also lots of interactive games that showed how fragile court life was in Tudor times! The castle has some distinctive features - there aren't many hexagonal castles in England - and also some nice Italian influences such as the ground floor stair case. You can actually climb up to the top floor of the tower although we didn't notice New Wardour Castle as we were looking in the wrong direction! All in all a lovely morning out and it'll be nice when you can walk round the lake and look at the castle and banqueting house across the water.

Plenty of parking for the explorers, you can see lady Blanche’s ghost down by the river at night and occasionally in the top left castle window 👌
