Speaking as someone who actually *went* to the school rather than judging it from a failed application (and it's Whitgift that have the peacocks and grounds, not Old Palace): The school is great and very accommodating (running GCSE and A-Level courses for just one person if necessary) as well as having good pastoral care. Any private school has lots of homework and relatively strict rules, so Old Palace isn't an exception there - but in general it's a great school. Furthermore, both the staff and students are very diverse (in terms of ethnicity, backgrounds...) and I have never come across any racism in my time there.
