An amazing place. It was a private cemetery that went bankrupt. Taken over by the city council in 1970. It was a frequent haunt of Philip Larkin and features in some of his poems. There is a figure of eight foot that is excellent for dog walkers and those looking for a peaceful walk. There is a bench installed by the Philip Larkin society. A Friends Graveyard within the General Cemetery and a number of individual monuments. There is a memorial to the 'Great Visitation of Cholera' in 1849 in Hull when 1 in 43 people passed away. It is separate to the western cemetery which is still in use for burials.
