I hadn't been down this side of Old St in quite a while so when one of my friends and I decided to meet up for dinner recently (to help stimulate the economy with our bellies) it was nice to see Officina found a home in Old St. It's tucked into one of those new shiny, all glass commercial buildings that has been creeping up over the past decade and besides a little black sign at the top corner with Officina 00 on it, you could easily walk past it! It is very different once you get inside, a little mix of industrialism and rustic decor rolled into one is how I’d describe it. Due to the pandemic, we were told that the counter spaces weren't available for the evening, which is a shame as in my opinion they are the best seats in most restaurants. We got seated next to the pasta making area which is open plan, great to see chefs in action if they were prepping for the day. It’s also where they run classes to the public; you can book online via their website. The only comment I'll make is on our evening, they must have either used some extremely pungent cheese in that area or they had been wiping down their benches with a smelly, damp cloth (I hope it's not the latter) which made the area smell unpleasant but it was either that table or a table right near the entrance to the restrooms; we stayed put. But enough about damp cloths... We started the evening with some Negroni Bianco which were delicious and different. Since we were there for the carb overload - we went straight to town. We ordered 3 pasta dishes, a serving of Cavatelli - which was a pepper and almond pesto with bacon, Ink Tagliolini - a glistering plate of ebony with samphire, anchovies and bread crumbs and a plate of Corzetti with wild mushroom, pork sausage and parsley. The favourite for us that evening was the Corzetti. Something about the woodiness of the mushroom with the slight caramelisation of little chunks of pork coating the corzetti, made you want more. The slight let down with the others was that the cavatelli was almost on the cusp of being slightly underdone and it as well as the tagliolini could have been given more oomph and seasoning. Overall, we like that there is a pared down, simple to read menu. A gluten free pasta option is available to go with all the dishes. There is a few italian wines on tap which made it easy for us as one wanted white whilst the other wanted red. All dishes and drinks are very reasonable priced and it was a lovely place to go to for a mid-week dinner. We'd be back to try it again.

This place is really slipping since my first few visits. The starters are way overpriced, particularly the ceviche. Focaccia was cold. Waitress kept bringing us other people’s orders, and poured the wine for my companions before I’d even tasted it. £140 for four people and we all left hungry. The pasta is lovely but the portions aren’t great.

The pasta was freshly made at the place. The dishes were tasty and there was enough sauce to the pasta. The meatballs were crispy and not over cooked, and the tomato sauce has cooked for a long time. There was plenty of truffle on the tagliatelle dish, which was a perfect combination to the mushrooms. I highly recommend eating here.

Fantastic experience. We took as a starter the really good panco lasagna and the really good pappardelle with meat sauce, all very quickly being Saturday.
