Introduction to Office Of The Independent Adjudicator

The Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA) was founded in 2004 as an independent body to resolve complaints from students about higher education providers in England and Wales. The purpose of the company is to ensure fairness in higher education by providing an independent and impartial service for students who have exhausted their university's internal complaints procedures. What makes this company unique is that it is not part of the university; it is an independent organization that operates separately from the government or universities, providing an unbiased resolution service for students.

Completely useless and not independent as they say as they side with the Uni even when they lie about you even when you have evidence about lies This place should be shut and replaced with an unbiased ombudsman

Highly communicative, professional and transparent. The problem is that of their authority being limited to handling only one problem at a time adding to the irrationality and time consuming aspects and only confirming if the university has followed its own procedures or not which is not done properly either as they are reckless with considering evidence! Nobody (not even The Office for Students) is monitoring universities' policies and procedures - especially with the case of Collegiate system of somewhere like Cambridge where there are so many conflicts of interest present in various overlapping sectors and roles. In a nutshell, the services which are mainly paid by the students are working in favour of corporate universities!

Biased..... misleading... unprofessional They confirm that they aren't time framed ... they confirm that their agents are authorised to end phone calls with students anytime... very rude and unfortunately discourage against studying in UK

Absolutely poor service, they don't consider anything that you say. They are very humilulative in how they deal with your case as they do not consider the truth and will use other information that is not relating to that peace of work towards you thereby twisting any evidence that you have proven. They don't bother with your evidence and just think about protecting the university when in fact they should be thinking of supporting to stop the university from needing to go to court. I wouldnt bother my arse with these people or Stephanie Talliss-Foster. If you feel that your case qualifies for court then go for it because the OIAHE are all lies. They don't care about anybody and just think about the university. They should be suied. I would give a no star if I was able to.

OIA is an absolute waste of time and emotional energy! Students should raise the issue with the government. OIA has absolute incompetent staff, they lack knowledge and experience in higher education matters. The student just hopes and waits but only to be disappointed with OIA. They get paid salaries for their unprofessional and incapable job. OIA needs to be scrapped for a better institution which will 'really help students'.

Highly incompetent staff, even at senior levels. I got my complaint held to be justified in the end - but this was after two years and following initial rejections by the OIA. I had to take on the OIA as well as my uni.

The OIA doesn't deserve any stars at all. It is an absolutely useless institution, blindly biased towards the universities. It doesn't even follow its Scheme Rules. It doesn't consider that a university hasn't complied with the Good Practice Framework recommendations for handling academic appeals and student complaints. The OIA shouldn't be on the Ombudsman Association's register as it has no regard for the Association's principles of good complaint handling and good governance. It simply needs to be dissolved as it doesn't appear to serve its intended purpose to fairly and impartially review complaints. It abuses its position of power with impunity. Sadly, many students' lives have been / are being ruined by this institution because of the low standards of probity and propriety in its complaint decision making conduct. The OIA definitely needs to be investigated. There won't be a shortage of people willing to testify with supporting substantive evidence. These Google comments are indeed genuine.

Not quite sure of the purpose of this organisation. They took almost two years to review my complaint and then just took the HEI's word/ explanation even thought there was no basis or evidence to back up the HEI's side of the story. Basically the OIA allowed my college to blatantly lie and they accepted the colleges lie and said they did nothing wrong. I thought the concept of the ombudsman is to make sure students get just treatment for the high fees they pay and to keep the higher education institutes in check to prevent oppressive practice. However colleges and universities can basically do as they please as there is no organisation to be accountable to. This ombudsman refuses to hold them to account, possibly because the colleges and universities pay them fees to help towards their running. Such a bias organisation
