Yesterday I took my 4 month old baby in for his PCV vaccination. Once inside the practitioner's room, I was ordered to put on a mask by the head nurse. I politely explained my reasoning for not wearing one, one of the reasons being that I was asthmatic, the second being I needed to comfort my child. She point blank refused to vaccinate him unless a mask was worn. I went straight to reception to inform them she was refusing and asked if my mother, who came with me that day could take him in masked instead. The reception staff agreed, but was then instructed by the head nurse that she was not going to see him unless a consent note was written and signed by myself giving my mother permission to take him in. I did this right away. 20 minutes later a member of reception staff approached me again, and told me the head nurse was still not satisfied with what I had written and to rewrite and sign. At this point my mother was waiting inside the other waiting area that she had been sent to, unaware of what was going on, trying to comfort my now screaming baby. I met my mother to explain what was happening and to calm baby. The head nurse came out of her room and continued to argue with me, refusing to vaccinate my son until this paper had been signed by myself, which I did yet again. Extremely upset by events, my husband arranged to speak to the manager at the Gp that afternoon. When he asked to see there policy on face masks. The answer he recieved was that the timing had been extremely unfortunate, as two hours after I had left the Gp, they had recieved a email with a new policy stating that masks were no longer required to be worn inside the practice!!!!!!!!!!!! But the nurse was completely correct to do what she did at the time. Something so important that should have taken 10 minutes, took over an hour. The situation left me and my mother extremely upset, and I had my baby and 3 year old in tears. By the time my baby had recieved his vaccine he, was extremely worked up. It is not a legal requirement to wear a mask and it is certainly not a good enough reason to refuse vaccination to a baby. And we have never been asked to write out a consent notes before allowing vaccinations to proceed. I am extremely disgusted with yesterdays treatment and the reasoning given for the head nurses actions. My husband is still seeking explanation.

Can't be bothered to answer the phones it seems. My partner is on the ph waiting to get through right now . She has been on the phone holding for over an hour and 25 mins of that she is apparently number 1 in the queue! .last rime I rang the surgery I rang from the car in Southend 10 miles away I was on hold all the way from Southend to canvey ,finally actually walked in to the surgery where there was only one receptionist talking on the phone with no effort to hurry to answer the next call. I am now standing in front of the receptionist still on hold !!!!! Unacceptable

By far the best surgery we've been registered with. Let's be honest, all surgeries have their issues with answering calls and giving appointments, but balance that against the amount of patients they have registered Vs doctors and nursing staff - wait times are often longer than we'd like. But the staff will always try to fix issues and whenever I've given constructive, polite and sensible feedback to the practice manager (Tracey), it has always been acted on. Pointless and unhelpful moaning isn't productive and doesn't fix issues - give them something to work to and they will. I've had my own issues with appointments, but I accept it's just down to appointment slots and demand. Well done team Oaklands Surgery, keep striving to be better, it is working!!

Fantastic service today. Got booked in for an afternoon appointment. Lovely doctor. Very thorough. Arranged tests, sent prescription through to my pharmacy. I'm very impressed, considering how things have been since covid. Friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Well done.
