The question is after two failed landlords the last of which ripped this lovely old pub to bits (with no action for the council's listed building woman - who I called). What are they going to do next? (Shepheard Neame). They have destroyed so many nice pubs / hotels and turned them into a 'MacDonald's' type outlet....Fayreness now Botany bay and The Royal Albion to mention just two. I am watching this space

Stumbled on this restaurant last night and was quite excited to discover Cambodian food in Margate. We are both pescatarian & was pleased to see they had a whole menu for vegan /vegetarian dishes. After ordering some fish & vegetable dumpling starters we went on to order the tofu sate & yellow curry with black sticky rice for our mains. Alarmingly after ordering our food we had these small children going around the tables chatting to strangers which made us feel very uncomfortable, it was the owners children who were obviously encouraged to chat to everyone. The dumplings arrived and were deep fried in old oil & couldn't tell which was fish & which was veggie, so heavy & greasy. Don't how they can even call them dumplings when they were like potato cakes. Curry arrived & was soooo sweet & tasteless, really awful.The tofu satey was probably the most unhealthy vegan dish I have ever tasted, deep fried in rice flour batter was disgusting & couldn't even taste the tofu. The menu sounds clean, aromatic, fragrant & healthy but instead is a mish mash of deep fried heavy oily unhealthy stodge. Such a shame when you have the beautiful flavours of the Pan Asian around the corner that is 1st class half the price. £77.00 for 2 and awful 😡😡

I am glad we went to eat out, overall was an interesting eve and also showed we are not missing out too much. The service and the banter were good, and they accommodated us despite arriving without reservation and late in the evening. For that we were grateful and happy to pay the 12.5% service charge. Food however left something to be desired. Our expectations were high as we love food. The mains lacked the freshness or the complexity of flavours typically present in South East Asian food. The sweet pork was relentless sweet and as it was in a sauce, the fat was too much. Even for me who never says no to a piece of belly or a pork scratching. The “Lab salat” was flat and chewy as the pieces of salmon were not prepped right. The curry may have been the best of the three in flavour, but at £20 not inc rice I’ll say “pass” The saving grace was the small portion of pickle veg that accompanied one of the starters. It was fresh and crunchy and with a great balance of sacude and sweeten. Also the black sticky rice & the pickled garlic both of which can be order as sides. Do try those.
