My Norton Commando motorcycle was involved in an accident in April 2019, a coal lorry pulled straight across me and I braked so hard that the wheels locked up. The machine got into a skid and I lost control of it at around 15mph. I have owned this motorcycle 30+ years and wanted to send it for proper repair to an expert. This is how it came back: The bike's front brake was in a potentially dangerous condition, the brake fluid was leaking quite badly. There was an engine misfire as soon as I started it up and then the wiring loom caught fire. He tried to say I caused that to happen-I don't think so Mr White? I started the machine up before it went to his workshop and it ticked over nicely, the wiring fault was caused at his end. There are lots of other things that I could mention but it would need a very long list; the chain required adjusting and he didn't even do that. After the machine had been {badly} repaired I asked him to service it, he charged me nearly £600.00 for a service, You'd think at £72.00 an hour you'd get a premium service-you don't. I complained bitterly about his work, if there is one plus he did return the £570.00 {so he doesn't get one star}. It would appear that the damping rods weren't tightened onto the stanchion nuts inside the fork tubes and he tried to blame that for the crash and said the bike was dangerous so that's why I crashed-Nasty Man { he was trying to get out of the problems I've listed above}. This firm beggars belief in standards and general attitude. an expert has since said "The brakes locked hard in the emergency and you went down because of loss of traction, Norman White is talking jibberish". The motorcycle was inspected by accident investigator's-the brakes and suspension had worked properly. The damping rods should have been tightened in the fork leg but this wasn't contibutory to the accident, this was a life and death situation, I had reduced the bike's speed by around 20mph before it went down. The lorry driver has admitted liabilty for the accident. This persons pompous and superior manner towards me was only surpassed by the sloppy working practices in his workshop. It took ages to get the machine right after he'd had it. He sent my saddle to Portsmouth on another motorcycle he'd repaired, and then tried to say I don't know my own bike. After weeks of messing me about he got my seat back from the other customer..This whole experience was just a complete disaster from start to finish. I have since had the motorcycle rewired, it seems that the earth wiring had completely melted. If he is as wonderful as the other contributors have said I can show them the report of the master cylinder internal components being weakened in the accident. The master cylinder wasn't inspected only the broken lever was replaced, on the machine's return the master cylinder was leaking. All I wanted was to ride my motorcycle again and because of Norman White it was off the road another 12 months. In response to other people who have placed a review to counter mine I say this. When the bike came back home I was itching to ride it, upon starting the bike the engine misfired badly, I rode the bike a very short distance and abandoned the ride. Back in the Garage I started the engine again and the wiring loom melted. Mr White tried to say that I had been messing about with it, why would I do that? The bike had been repaired as far as I was concerned there was no reason on earth for me to do anything but ride it. I would not lie about something like this. The accident shook me badly but I was really looking forward to riding my old friend again. On the bikes return all I did was check the tyres and oil before attempting to ride the machine the loom fire that ensued was his fault,

Norman White has been extremely helpful to me in the years that I have spent restoring Norton Commando motorcycles. Not only is he hugely knowledgeable about these machines, he is also an excellent chap and I would happily and sincerely recommend him to anyone needing work done. I have learnt a tremendous amount from him over the years and he is always very generous with his time and advice even though rushed off his feet with other work. My thanks to you, Norman, and keep it up!!

Having just read the review posted by Mr Powis on the Norman White website I must point out that being the owner of the other Norton involved concerning the wrong seat, I had at no time complained about this, having not even realised myself that the seat unit was not the original one fitted until contacted by Norman himself, so I do wonder where Mr Powis has his information from. Having known Norman for the past 30 years, and having had my Norton totally rebuilt by him in 1996 I have found his work to be of the highest calibre, and have continued to retain his expert knowledge and workmanship over these past 30 years. My bike has been Serviced, MOT’d and other worked carried out on numerous occasions as and when required. On several occasions I had broken down whilst out riding on my Norton and Norman would always find time to collect my bike, sort the problem and return the bike to my home address, nothing being too much trouble for him. I can only say that the service I have received from Norman White over these past 30 years is exceptional and I will continue taking my Norton to him whilst he is still working. I would also recommend anyone with a Norton motorcycle to use his skill and expertise.
