  As always the exhibits and subject matter are fascinating and the venue is filled with information. The cloakroom is excellent for families with buggies or travelling tourists with bags Sadly the cafes aren't just overpriced, as one expects , they are an absolute rip off. Make sure to avoid them at all costs and use the picnic areas to enjoy your own packed lunch . While it's clear many areas are exceptionally well maintained others are showing Thier age and wear and tear. Many of the interactive exhibits are non functional , including three areas of the creepy crawly display , one of the ones most interesting to children and therefore most disappointing to us. The number of interactive displays for children seems far less these days and many are over 20 years old as I remember them from my own childhood. A lick of paint and some maintenance would improve things The Dino exhibit seems much smaller, less animatronics and the ceiling suspended dinosaurs are very hard to actually see being too far above and easy to miss. Also two areas taken up with green screen photo ops and the payment area are staffed with a poorly qualified photographer and is a waste of space in an incredibly popular area. It's still an excellent day out and we suggest spending the whole day there as there is so much to see. It just needs a few less gift shops. Two is enough, four is unnecessary when the quality is so low and the price so high. Jurassic park toys are fun but considering the advancement of our knowledge in these areas perhaps offering them with a hefty mark up is unnecessary for an institution that focuses on real natural history , not fake .

  Lived and loved every experience. Even wrote an article: 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗹. Everyone has probably heard about Charles Darwin (1809-1892) and his wiz-theory of Evolution, but not many people would remember Alfred Russel Wallace (1823 - 1913) who independently conceived his own Ideas and published his first letter on the Subject, beating Charles Darwin who claimed to have had his own ideas twenty years prior but never published it. . Despite his secured place as one of the most respected scientists in the world and his expeditions spanning over 12 years to the Amazon and Malay Archipelago (now Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia), Wallace is mentioned only in passing as simply being the stimulus to the publication of Darwin's own theory. What a great sadness! . In reality, Wallace developed his own distinct evolutionary views which significantly diverged from Darwin's, and was considered by many (especially Darwin himself) to be a leading thinker on evolution in his day, whose ideas could not be ignored. • While both men agreed on the importance of natural selection, and some of the factors responsible for it like competition between species and geographical isolation, Wallace believed that 𝘦𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘢 𝘱𝘶𝘳𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘦 in maintaining species' fitness to their environment. Darwin however, hesitated to attribute any purpose to these natural processes. • Darwin emphasised competition between individuals of the same species to survive and reproduce. Wallace emphasised that 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘥, 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘰𝘱𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘦. . You would agree that thanks to Wallace, we now understand why people of African descent have more melanin for the scorching Sun as compared to Caucasians for instance, or why Arctic animals of the same species take to a different fur colour that match the nature of the icy-snow environment as compared to their counterparts in tropical climate. . By the 1880s, Evolution was widely accepted in scientific circles. But the idea of Darwin's "natural selection?" Much less so. . Wallace however was loyal to Darwin and I am not sure why. - On one hand, Darwin who was from a wealthy background, enjoyed a pristine education —Dude literally abandoned Medicine at the University of Edinburgh to investigate Marine Invertebrates and explore a career in Natural Sciences. Wallace on the other hand, was a poor chap who dropped out of school at aged 14, to earn a living through manual labour. He eventually landed work as a Surveyor in the English and Welsh countryside and while at it, 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘪𝘮 (𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧-𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨). - When Darwin was viciously attacked by his peers later over the hoax of Natural Selection, Wallace would respond with his own famous 1889 publication titled "Darwinism" which was a robust response to the scientific critics of natural selection. Of all Wallace's books, Darwinism is the most cited by scholarly publications to this day. He argument in that book gave Darwin so much leverage and leeway, Darwin was so pleased with the fact Wallace was not competing to take away his Shine. . Could Wallace's fealty have been tied to a deeply ingrained inferiority complex, or was he truly seeking the leverage of Darwin's elite Network to validate his own ideas to the Scientific Community? Regardless, both men gave themselves the same pedigree and respect accorded to each other. So much so that they were given a JOINT RECOGNITION of their contribution to evolution at a meeting of the Linnean Society in July 1958.
