I first saw Newbridge church from a distance. I'd been in my garden looking for my keys when the church bells started ringing. I asked someone where the nearest church was. He said there was one up the Rd but I wouldn't enjoy it. He thought Newbridge was more suited to me. So I walked down the road in my nightie under my dress, broken foot and looked for church. I was shocked. A small building, no steeple, no stained glass. A lovely congregation, friendly, helpful. I was invited to lunch. I started going there every week with my granddaughter. She toddled between me and her great grandmother. I was embarrassed that Christmas when said granddaughter decided to change baby jesus nappy. She unwrapped his swaddling clothes and was shocked that mummy hadn't put on a nappy. After that I went regularly to Newbridge. 15 years b4 I moved out of the area. 3 years ago they set up a community breakfast. Every Saturday morning they provide a cooked breakfast with cereal free of charges. Every few months there's an evident, fair, concert which everyone is invited to. A warm welcoming place.
