Absolutely amazing to work with. They help first time authors through the process step by step and the end result was phenomenal!

My experience with Pegasus Elliot Mackenzie Publishers was first-rate, from the clarity of the royalties contract to the expert editing (which caught a few story lapses) to the frequent updates from the production department. I know I’m not the only author on the Pegasus list but they sure made me feel like it. I’m forever a fan. Stewart Weiner (George Stewart)

Although I haven’t received my author copies yet my book was just published yesterday. I have been a writer for a long time and been in literary magazines several times but the thought of publishing my book was overwhelming to me. I am a bit of a diva and if I didn’t hear from them in awhile I would send an email and I found that they responded promptly. I will always have a soft spot for my first publisher. At the time I was going through a difficult time in my life and they only responded with a warm professionalism. I didn’t read the contract very carefully and was pleasantly surprised when I found out in the past couple days my book is available internationally. I live in a small town in Vermont and as an introvert I could never have taken the time to reach out to all the bookstores that they have. My friends in Australia, the U.K, the U.S and New Zealand can buy my book!

Pegasus Elliot Mackenzie Publishers Ltd hybrid publishing contracts feel like a complete scam. When I was offered the contract, I had reservations about the concept of paying a portion to get the book published. However, I requested a copy of the contract to consider the option. For 2400 Euros, I would only receive 50% royalties on most of the work sold (20% on some of the rarer things, like if my book would be quoted in a tv series). Being that I am a first-time author and don't anticipate a giant number in terms of sales for a book that likely wouldn't cost more than $8CAD to buy, it seems I would not recover my contributions in any reasonable timeline at this offer. Further, the contract listed my address somewhere that I haven't lived since 2020. I asked about whether they were viewing an old submission (I had done extensive edits to my work and re-submitted a query to Pegasus literary agents - not the Elliot MacKenzie branch, and wondered if they passed it onto their vanity press from there). They assured me this was based on my Jan 31 2023 submission, but in that submission, my old address was nowhere to be found, so I find this highly suspicious. The contract also offers 50% royalties on an ebook. When I pressed that Amazon offers 70% if I were to self-publish, and it would be no cost to me, they responded that I could self-publish, but would have to take it down when they publish it as an ebook for me. Essentially, I'd have to lose 20% on royalties anyways, but hey, it's great because they would do so much more for me on a professional level! It's definitely not worth the 2400 Euros they want to charge me. I'd rather just hire my own editor and cover artist at a third of the cost and self-publish some ebooks where I can get better royalties if traditional publishing isn't an option. I may not get as strong of a marketing platform out of it, but I don't feel I should go into debt to be able to share my creativity.
