This is one of the nicest National Trust places my wife and I have visited. At 11.30am there was an interesting and informative talk about the Victorian period middle class owners, the Beale family, the house architect Philip Webb and his connection with the famous interior designer Morris & Co. James Beale was a wealthy, self made man, and although to most onlookers the house and grounds are impressive and beautifully decorated, this place has the pleasant feel of a very comfortable family home that was enjoyed by Mr & Mrs Beale and their 7 children.
