Great place to visit to wander around and see the gardens, woods, house and have a picnic or something from the cafe. The main garden is extensive, combining lawns, shrubs and a wooded walk with pretty wild flowers. The house is well presented - a good job done by the National Trust- with knowledgeable guides. Upstairs, as an alternative to the usual bedrooms, was a fashion exhibition with a difference: a theme of reuse and designing to last, and with a strong message of the considerabe resources wasted on clothing that is often thrown away after little use. It made us think. Will visit again when in the area.

The house is grand but on a relatively modest scale, comfortable and full of interest. The gardens were lovely. The influence of the Acland family very much persists - which is good!
