One had to pay an entry fee ( £14) even to only go to the café. We decided not to go in. The grounds and house looked nice from a distance.

Staff were extremely helpful on the gate advising of all the tours etc available, the grounds were immaculate as usual, the orangerie cafe had a good selection of fare which didn't seem as expensive as I remember and the shop had interesting gifts, plants and treats. Well worth a visit. Not sure what the current cost of admission is (free pass on this occasion) but that usually makes the venue prohibitive for me in normal circumstances.

The walk along the river from Richmond to Ham house is very pleasant, and then the gardens and house are stunning. A beautifully maintained building with really helpful staff to talk about the history.
