The museum itself is great. There's loads to see and do. If you have children though, prepare for the next level. Ahoy, a bookable experience, is a role-pay area where children from as young as a few months (I took mine when he was 7 months) can shovel coal into a boiler (with real-time responsive flames) to power a ship; explore ship's cabins; dress up; take charge of shipping and transporting shipping containers; explore the arctic... There's so much to do and it's free. That's right, *FREE*. During term times anyway. Then you have the giant map space, which kids love (it might be the ride-on mini ship); the virtual ship's bridge where you can navigate a ship from New York to Portsmouth (or just drive it into the Statue of Liberty, like my kid did - we're keeping an eye on him 😂); the kid-friendly exhibits with interactive elements everywhere... honestly, it's a whole day out. Bring your own picnic (they don't mind) or use the cafe. When you're done in the museum, explore the grounds (including Queen's House, where Elizabeth the first was sent if she was naughty. It was her favourite palace because it had the fewest rats!), The Naval College (where you'll be forever trying to remember where you've seen it before - movies. That's where. Pirates of the Caribbean, Thor 2, Now You See Me 2...). THEN you have the rest of Greenwich to look around, including a newly refurbished play park with sand pits, slides, swings and more.
