The history of this Tearoom/ Cafe is like no other. It has EXTRAORDINARY real life history of the tearoom from an occupant that was born in the late 1500s and lived there in the 1600s and travelled to America. His hands would have touched parts of that tearoom. The current owners of the tearoom do extremely well to display the history of the building , by having pictures and written history on the walls, tables and exterior of the building. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this about this specific tearoom and it is the only reason I go to Dorking which is many miles from where I live. The tearoom always serves in dainty fine bone China sourced from second hand shops which is always an AMAZING experience. The tearoom serves a complimentary piece of small ginger cake for every guest which is a beautiful kind gesture. Sadly their cakes aren’t up to scratch and something about the cake is missing , either eggs or sugar or something but the cakes just don’t taste right and are quite bland. Maybe it’s baking powder that’s missing. Also the scone wasn’t a homemade scone today and was definitely either old or shop bought. I’ve been to hundreds of tearooms in the country and I know what a homemade scone looks like and tastes like, saying that there was a generous amount of clotted cream and jam and the staff are very attentive and warm. It gets very busy in there so turn up early or book in advance. Will most definitely be returning again very soon for a nice brekkie. I do not like saying anything negative about small businesses and I know how hard the husband and wife work at this tearoom but I just needed to but I must comment the positives to this wonderful tearoom outweighs any negatives. The history of where this tearoom is situated is SIMPLY EXTRAORDINARY!!! William Mullins ,via his daughter Priscilla who survived after the voyage to America and had many children of her own, is said to have around 400 direct descendants living in the USA 🇺🇸. He is an ancestor to many and originated from Dorking and this tearoom was once his home ! Unbelievable history !!!
