A fantastic weekend in the Lake District. Our guide Stuart was excellent: patient, clear, helpful, knowledgeable and a brilliant instructor. I learnt how to read a map, locate my position, navigate to a new point and generally to be safe in the mountains. It exceeded expectations and I can't recommend this course enough.

Last weekend I completed the 2-day NNAS Silver Navigation award course in the Lake District. While I love getting outdoors and hiking, I wanted to learn skills in navigation with a map and compass, so I could feel confident going out and about safely on my own. The course surpassed my expectations and I learned so much. Stu is a hugely experienced instructor and delivered the course with the perfect mixture of serious focus and humour, taking time to make sure every participant understood each of the practical skills. I felt like I was out on the hills with a bunch of good friends! We didn’t have much in the way of bad weather to challenge us (it was perfect!), and had an enjoyable climb to High Spy on Day 2 to take in the amazing views and put all we had learned into practice. I will continue to practice my route planning map skills 😊. Highly recommend this superb course.

For a 55 year old female who has been divorced from her compass for some years this course totally address this. Stuart was patient, explained key information using different learning techniques and catered for different knowledge/skill levels. The price was competitive, I learnt a huge amount and now have to put my learning into practice. Thank you.

Really great course, I did the 4 day Mountain Skills plus course and we had a fantastic time, and learned a ton of new skills. Lots of navigation practice and then went wild camping which was amazing! Highly recommend :) Thank you!

Just completed the 4 days Mountain Skills course in the Cairngorms. The course was lead by Stuart, who excelled at keeping us motivated and imparting his knowledge. Really enjoyed the experience and looking to book the NAS Gold and Winter Skills courses later this year.

Just back from the Mountain Skills Plus... It was superb! I already had some basic knowledge and climbing experience, and this has been really the opportunity to consolidate all I had learned before, learn new things I didn't know, and discover how much more there is to learn and explore! This course made me much more confident in going solo exploring and wild camping. Even more important for me, I learned how to pace in a group which is not obvious. Stuart's knowledge and tips from experience are incredibly precious. Next steps?! I can't wait to join the Morocco expedition!

Stu knows his stuff and has a easy but effective way of getting it across. I plan to go and climb some Munros and being from the flattest part of the country I haven't spent much time in the mountains. After just 4 days in the Lake District my knowledge and skill level has gone up and up. I've come away from the course confident in what I can do and recognising what I'm not yet ready to do.

The Mountain Skills training course was brilliant, it taught me everything I need to get myself out of poor visibility/being lost situations on the fells and has improved my confidence massively. Stuart is a great teacher and gives every person in the group his time to ensure we all are progressing. Would definitely recommend.
