I’d been a loyal customer of Moat Plant for 6yrs since I began my gardening business, despite them being 25mins from my garage. During this time I purchased equipment from them. I sent others there for hand held machinery & on one occasion, plant hire. I recommended this company to others. I had my machines serviced by them. When required, I bought smaller items from them, grease etc. Any repairs I needed, I took to them. Prior to my last visit I also placed an order for a leaf blower & hedge trimmer for the beginning of this season, 2021. So it was natural I use Moat Plant when I was really stuck last year. Coming to the end of the season in 2020 & with only two hedge trimming jobs to complete, I caught the machine blades, causing them to be making contact. Without wanting further damage, I rang up Moat Plant and asked could I have them straightened as they had done in the past for me. I was told they were concentrating on plant hire machinery but since I was a well known customer they would. When I rang up later to order some grease to collect, I was informed that the owner had stepped in and I couldn’t have my blades repaired after all. I told them I may not find other places open. The reply came back no, despite the owner knowing I was a loyal customer. After explaining I had only two hedge cutting jobs left for the season, the answer was still no, despite me being desperate. The owner was fine with that! I asked to speak to him on the phone to try and reason but he was on the other line! This from the same chap who on a good day could talk the leg off a donkey about a certain place we shared a common interest in abroad. Yet a month prior to my request, whilst in the shop waiting for my bill for something else, the owner came to collected paperwork from the front counter only a foot away from me, then walked back out again without a word. Bizarre behaviour! Being stuck last year, I rang other places to see if I could hire a hedge trimmer, but no luck. With the situation I was in at the time & nowhere else to take my machine, I decided to take a look at the blades myself. I am in no way mechanically minded, hence there being places like Moat Plant for me to go to for help but it took me 10mins in my mates vice. That really shows how small this job was. I completed my last two hedge jobs without losing both jobs. I read another review here about a chap at the desk. I could categorically say that this would not be aimed at the two lads who front the shop! They have been nothing more than helpful in all the time I’ve gone to Moat Plant over the years & I’m assuming were embarrassed by the owners response to my request. They didn’t discredit him but were loyal to him & could only apologise. I don’t expect preferential treatment & I’m sure Moat Plant have many more customers spending much more but the owner needs a lesson in return loyalty! Leave the lads who are employed to deal with customer service! They are doing a brilliant job. The hot & cold treatment does nothing for business. After ringing around to purchase my new equipment recently, it seems this chap has a bit of a history & is known for the hot & cold treatment. I can say here it is genuinely not my intention to cause harm to Moat Plant’s business & I’m quite sure my review won’t. The lads who work here are genuinely decent hard working lads. They know that because I’ve told them this. I usually try leave a good business review. But not in this case! Obviously I won’t be able to confidently recommend this place to anyone. As we all know in business one negative comment is worth more than ten positive! My custom won’t be missed unfortunately for me since the owner is about as sentimental for his customers as a lump hammer! Apologies for the length of my review. A star each for the lads on the desk I mention here.
